What is stress incontinence?
Stress incontinence is the condition of involuntary discharge due to sudden pressure on the bladder due to several activities such as exercise, laughing, coughing and sneezing. Weak lower pelvic muscles are a common cause of stress incontinence. This weakness is usually caused by stretching or damage to the muscles during childbirth. In some cases, stress incontinence can be caused or exacerbated by the weakness of the urinary sphincter muscle. Factors that can worsen this condition are obesity or smoke, and age factors.
What are the benefits of the TVT installation operation?

What should I know before undergoing TVT installation operations?
The mechanism for transobturator installation is almost the same as TVT surgery, but the only difference is placement. Simple treatments that can be done include lower pelvic exercises, electrical stimulation, incontinence and bladderneck bulking. There are other surgical procedures such as Burch colposuspension, needle suspension, and sling procedure . These types of operations are classified as operations that are larger than TVT but the results are not more effective.
Process
What should I do before undergoing TVT installation operation?
At the stage of preparation for surgery, make sure you tell your doctor about your health condition, the medicines you are taking, and all the allergies you have. The anesthesiologist will explain the anesthesia procedure and give further instructions. Make sure you follow all doctor's instructions, including a ban on eating and drinking before surgery. In general, you are required to fast for six hours before the surgery is done. However, you may be allowed to consume drinks like coffee a few hours before the surgery.
What is the process of installing TVT?
This operation is carried out under general anesthesia and usually takes around 30 minutes. The doctor will make two small incisions. The first incision in the lower part of the abdomen and the second incision in the part of the vagina, just below the urethra (urinary tract from the bladder). The doctor will insert a needle with a ribbon through an incision in the urethra into an incision made in the abdomen.
What should I do after undergoing TVT installation operation?
After surgery, you are allowed to go home if you can urinate normally the next day or even the same day. After three to four days after surgery, you may be able to return to work depending on the type of work. However, most women have to wait for two to four weeks. Avoid excessive physical activity such as lifting something heavy for several weeks. Regular exercise is also proven to accelerate the recovery process. However, avoid exercise in the first week. Before you decide to exercise, ask for a doctor's advice. Continue to exercise your lower pelvis to reduce the risk of prolapse and prevent incontinence coming back.
Complications
What complications can occur?
The risks that may occur from TVT operations are:
● injury to the bladder or urethra (perforation)
● postoperative urinary difficulties Bladder injuries and urination problems after surgery are rare in the operation of Tape Transobturator (TOT).
However, TOT operations have other risks, including:
● postoperative groin pain
● numbness or weakness in the groin or leg fold area.
There is also the risk of problems caused by ribbons used in surgery including erosion of tissue in the pelvis. All operations carry some risk of infection or other complications which are unexpected reactions to anesthesia, excessive bleeding or develop blood clots (deep vein thrombosis, DVT) .
You can reduce the risk of complications by following the doctor's directions before surgery, such as fasting and stopping taking certain drugs.
