Medical Video: Pharmacology - ANTIARRHYTHMIC DRUGS (MADE EASY)

Medications that prevent or treat cardiac arrhythmias are called antiarrhythmics. Antiarrhythmic drugs are classified according to their use in 5 groups.

Group V includes Adenosine, Digoxin, Magnesium Sulfate.

The Role of Adenosine, Digoxin, Magnesium Sulfate in Handling CVD

Adenosine

Adenosine can slow or stop a rapid heartbeat if the cause is caused by abnormal electrical pathways in the heart. If you also have atrial fibrillation or atrial flutterAdenosine can only slow down the heart rate in a short time.

Prevention and supervision of chronic heart failure is very important for cardiologists. There are 3 strategies to prevent patients from damaging parts. The first strategy is to eliminate the cause of chronic heart failure if possible; the second strategy is to monitor events that can lead to chronic heart failure, such as schaemia myocardial and reperfusion injury; and third is to prevent or monitor the development of chronic heart failure.

Adenosine has several actions cardioprotective and a therapeutic agent for chronic heart failure. First, adenosine induces collateral circulation by inducing growth factors and triggering ischemic preconditions, both of which induce ischemic tolerance at the beginning. Adenosine can also reduce noradrenaline release, endothelin production, and monitor the activation of the renin-angiotensin system which is believed to cause hypertrophy and heart re-formation. Second, exogenous adenosine is known to reduce how much ischaema and reperfusion injury. Third, adenosine can neutralize neurohumoral factors such as the cytokine system, which is related to the pathophysiology of chronic heart failure. The latest findings suggest that altered adenosine metabolism in patients with chronic heart failure and increasing levels of adenosine can reduce the severity of chronic heart failure. There are many potential mechanisms for cardiac protection associated with adenosine, and the use of adenosine therapy can help patients with chronic heart failure.

Digoxin

Digoxin is used to treat heart failure and heart rate abnormalities (arrhythmias). Digoxin helps the heart work better and control the heart rate. Digoxin is also used to treat heart pain (angina) and can be used after a heart attack.

As many new drugs to control heart failure, digoxin still has an important role in the long term. Number of clinical trials placebo-controlled showing treatment with digoxin can improve symptoms, quality of life, and exercise tolerance in patients with mild, moderate, or advanced heart failure. Unlike other agents with positive inotropic properties, digoxin does not increase mortality and has the advantage of reducing the possibility of hospitalization due to heart failure.

Digoxin is also used to treat atrial fibrillation, an irregular heart rhythm and starts from the upper heart space (atria).

Magnesium Sulphate

Some people use magnesium for heart and blood vessel disease, such as chest pain, irregular heartbeat, high blood pressure, high levels of bad cholesterol, or Low-Density Lipoprotein (LDL), cholesterol levels that are either low or High-Density Lipoprotein (HDL), heart valve disease and heart attack. Intravenous magnesium is an effective treatment for ventricular tachycardia and for patients with congestive heart failure, low serum magnesium concentrations are associated with frequent arrhythmias and high mortality. This suggests that giving magnesium can reduce the frequency of ventricular arrhythmias in patients with heart failure.

Always consult a doctor before using group V antiarrhythmia. Tell your doctor if you are or plan to become pregnant or are breastfeeding. Also tell the doctor what medications you use, including natural and herbal supplements. Tell your doctor if you have allergies to group V antiarrhythmic treatment.
