  1. Definition

What is insect bite pain?

Fly bites, deer flies, sandflies, gnats, fire ants, harvesting ants, cone-nosed insects, blister beetles, and centipedes usually cause pain and red bumps (sometimes hot). Within a few hours, the bite of a fire ant will turn into bulging blisters or spots.

What are the signs and symptoms?

Symptoms that arise from insect bites are the result of injecting poisons or other substances from insects into your skin. Its severity depends on a person's immune system and sensitivity to insect poisons. Most people do not produce serious reactions, even if they have a history of allergies or asthma. However, these people risk a more serious reaction to insect stings. Bees, yellow jacket insects, wasps, bees, and fire ants can cause anaphylactic reactions. You have usually been stung before if an anaphylactic reaction appears.

Mild reactions are usually in the form of itching or stinging sensations, and mild reddish swelling on the surface of the skin. Symptoms of a mild reaction usually disappear within a day or two. The severity of your reaction depends on your sensitivity to the toxins released by insects, and whether you have been stung before.

You should seek emergency medical help immediately if the following symptoms appear:

  • Nausea, vomiting, stomach ache
  • Facial swelling, difficulty swallowing
  • Difficulty breathing, rapid breathing, severe cough, hoarseness, and possibly discomfort in the chest area
  • Weakness, dizziness, cold, moist and cold skin, fainting, or unconsciousness
  • Itchy spots all over the body

What should I do?

Rub the bite area with cotton soaked in meat tenderizer and water solution for 10 minutes (do not do it if the bite is near the eye). This treatment can reduce pain. If you don't have a meat tenderizer, use a solution of water and baking soda. Give acetaminophen or ibuprofen to relieve pain.

When do I have to see a doctor?

Contact your doctor immediately if:

  • There are more than 10 bites of fire ants
  • Bite pain interferes with sleep
  • Ggigitan becomes an infection
  • You feel you need to be examined by a doctor
  1. Prevention

Use insect repellent carefully on the skin that is not covered in clothing, and on the clothes you wear.
