The brain is an organ that is the center of command and the human nervous system. Intelligence, creativity, emotion, memory, and body movement are some of the many things that are regulated by the brain. If you want to do something, then the brain rules and regulates it. How? You do this by receiving input from the sensory organ and sending it output to the muscle in the form of action. But the brain is not an entity. There are many parts of the brain that are responsible for various bodily functions. Come on, get acquainted!

Part of the brain and its function

The brain is protected by the skull to protect the brain from mild head injury. The skull is formed from eight fused bones which include the frontal, parietal, temporal, sphenoid, occipital and etmoid.

Then what are the parts of the brain that carry out each function? See the explanation below, yes.

Big brain

The large brain (cerebrum) is the largest part of the brain consisting of the right brain and left brain. The surface of the cerebrum has a fold appearance called the cortex. The cortex contains about 70 percent of about 100 billion nerve cells.

The cerebrum functions to regulate all actions and thoughts. In this section consists of four parts called lobes, namely:

  • Frontal lobe. Part of the hemisphere of the brain located behind the forehead. Serves to regulate decision making, personality, movement, intellectual processes, and interactions. The frontal lobe is important for controlling mind, reasoning, and behavior.
  • Parietal lobe. This part of the brain is responsible for the five human senses. Namely touching, tasting, sight, hearing and smell.
  • Occipital lobe. This lobe is very important for receiving, processing, and interpreting sensory information.
  • Temporal lobe. This part plays an important role in regulating sensory input, hearing perception, language and speech production, and memory.

Right brain and left brain

The left brain is the cerebral hemisphere on the left. In general, the right hemisphere controls creativity, spatial ability, artistic, and musical skills.

Then, the left brain is the cerebral hemisphere on the right. In general, the left hemisphere controls speech, comprehension, arithmetic, and writing.

According to My Field Clinic, the left hemisphere is dominant in hand and language use in about 92% of people. These two brains are connected by an axon, the corpus callosum.

Middle brain and brain stem

The midbrain part consists of a tectum and tegmentum. Often the midbrain, pons, and medulla oblongata are referred to together as the brain stem. This section serves to connect the cerebrum and cerebellum to the spinal cord. In addition, this section also performs many automatic functions such as breathing, heart rate, body temperature, wake and sleep cycle, digestion, sneezing, coughing, vomiting, and swallowing.

Back brain

The back of the brain consists of the cerebellum, pons and medulla. The cerebellum is also called the cerebellum located below the cerebrum. Its function is to harmonize muscle movements, maintain body posture, and balance.
