In the last 10 years, the use of shisha among young people throughout the world has increased sharply. The proof, now we can easily find shisha in a number of cafes, including in Indonesia. What is a shisha?

Shisha or also commonly called hookah, is a Middle Eastern style of tobacco smoking. How to smoke shisha is different from smoking tobacco in general. Shisha uses a tube filled with water. Inside the tube, tobacco is heated with added fruit flavor. The shisha tube is also equipped with a hose to breathe the smoke it produces.

The shisha tube consists of several parts, namely:

1. Base tube

Usually the base of the tube is made of clear glass, blue, green, or other colors, and generally there is a carving or painting design. There are various forms available.

2. Pipe

Pipe is the body of hookah. Usually made of brass, tin or stainless steel which has two important supplements, namely:

  • Hose socket, where to install the hose.
  • Exhaust valve, which can open the lid to reveal small ball bearings. This discharge has a one-way valve. If there is more smoke, you can blow it slowly through the hose and the smoke at the bottom of the pipe will be forced to exit through this valve. (Be careful: If the valve is clogged, fixing it by blowing too hard on the hose can force water into the pipe or can throw hot coals out of the bowl!)

3. Hose

Hose hookah usually bright and striking. The hose itself is a grooved rubber whose end is made of wood. One end is to be connected to a hose socket, while the other end usually has a small metal handle and mouthpiece for the mouth.

4. Bowl

Made from clay, usually has five small holes or one large hole. This bowl holds shisha tobacco and coal.

5. Coal tray

Serves as a place to put tongs or other objects. This tray can also catch some of the ash which is blown away from the embers.

6. Clamp

Clamp is usually used to hold hot coals.

7. Rubber or plastic necklace

Used to ensure a good seal between the parts hookah.

8. Barriers to the wind

Light and made of metal cylinders contained in the coal tray, serves to protect the bowl and its contents.

9. Disposable funnel

Often used in shisha cafes. This plastic extension is inserted into the end of the hose to keep it clean especially if you are sucking shisha alternately with several other people.

10. Shisha tobacco

Shisha is a mixture of tobacco, molasses, and fruit extracts or artificial flavorings.

11. Coal

Coal must "Self-lighting", kind of smokeless. This is produced specifically for burning incense and smoking shisha. It is prohibited to use ordinary charcoal because it can cause carbon monoxide poisoning.

What is the danger of breathing shisha?

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), smoking session hookah usually makes smokers smoke for longer periods of time than regular smoking. The consequences of the method include the frequency of gusts, the depth of suction, and the length of the smoking session, shisha smokers the possibility of absorbing more of the same concentration of toxins found in tobacco smoke.
