The study found that people who consumed one egg every day decreased their risk of stroke by 12 percent compared to people who only consumed less than two eggs per week. This reduction in the risk of stroke events affects both types of strokes, namely ischemic stroke and hemorrhagic stroke. However, the researchers found no significant association between the amount of egg consumption and the risk of heart disease.

Isn't an egg high in cholesterol?

It is true that chicken eggs are one of the foods that contain high cholesterol, especially in the yellow part. One egg yolk contains almost 186 mg of cholesterol, while the recommended daily cholesterol consumption limit is 300 mg. Moreover, egg yolks contain phosphatidylcholine which the body then converts to a compound that can increase the risk of heart attack, stroke, or death.

But on the other hand, eggs also contain many other nutrients, such as minerals, proteins, and unsaturated fatty acids which can reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. Eggs also contain antioxidants that can reduce oxidative stress and inflammation, and contain vitamins A, D, and E. Vitamin E has been known to reduce the risk of a heart attack and prevent blood clots in arteries.

Although eggs are high in cholesterol, it is important to remember that saturated fats play a greater role in increasing cholesterol levels in the body. You are also encouraged to keep limiting egg intake in a day. The consumption of just two eggs has exceeded the recommended limit, not to mention the cholesterol we get from other foods. Also balance your egg consumption with other healthy foods, such as vegetables and fruits.
