Medical Video: Inside The Life Of A 'Virtuous' Paedophile

Many people think that a pedophile looks like a shabby old grandfather hiding in the bushes to ambush his victims when they are careless. However, a pedophile may be a neighboring office worker, a close friend, a school teacher, a babysitter, even your own family member.

Over the years, child abuse has been regarded as adaptive behavior learned. That is, most likely the perpetrators are people who have received the same sexual violence in their childhood. However, although this may be a determining factor in some cases, the same principle does not apply to those who have pure pedophile diagnostics.

What is pedophilia?

Pedophilia is a clinical diagnosis of mental disorders. Pedophiles have differences in their brains when compared to normal adults, which makes them sexually attracted to children. In patients with pedophilia, the brain region that processes sexual responses will be aroused by the faces of children.

Reporting from Daily MailWhen normal adult men consider a mature woman sexually attractive, they will unconsciously lower their tone of voice and alert their attitude, to show strength and masculinity. Meanwhile, when they are dealing with small children, they will raise their voices.

Well, instead of showing a typical response from a normal man when he sees a child, a pedophile's brain triggers a sex response, such as when looking at an adult woman, rather than responding to protecting and nurturing like a parent.

Diagnostics and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV) describe pedophilia as sexual fantasies, impulsive desires, or behaviors involving sexual activity with recurrent minors for at least six months. In most cases, a person can be regarded as a pedophile if he is at least 16 years old and at least five years older than the minor. Those who suffer from pedophilia have a compulsive tendency to torture children.

Pedophiles are generally alienated, but aggressive when confronted

Some individuals with pedophilia are able to display themselves as members of the community who are psychologically normal during an investigation or momentary meeting, even though they have a severe personality disorder behind all the external appearance. People with pedophilia generally experience feelings of inferiority, isolation or loneliness, self-distrust, internal dysforia, and emotional immaturity.

In addition, pedophiles have difficulty interacting with other adults according to their age, especially because of the lack of aspects of firmness that they have, increased levels of passive-aggressive, and anger or cruelty. These behavioral characteristics make it difficult for them to deal with painful influences, which result in excessive use of self-defense mechanisms by intellectualization, rejection, cognitive distortion (for example, manipulating facts), and rationalization. Even so, it does not rule out the possibility of people with pedophilia getting married.

Citing research journals published in Abuse Watchmost sex offenders against children are male, even though female offenders cover 0.4% -4% of sex offenders who are punished by crimes. Pedophile women tend to be young (22-23 years), have less life skills, may meet the criteria for the presence of psychiatric disorders, especially depression and drug abuse; also meet the criteria of personality disorders (antisocial, borderline, narcissistic, and dependency).

In cases where female offenders are involved in child sexual abuse, there is a high chance that there are male pedophiles involved. When male pedophiles are involved, usually child victims can be more than one person.

Studies claim that pedophiles tend to have special physical disabilities and left-handed hands

A recent study by the University of Windsor in Canada showed that pedophiles tend to be left-handed and have small facial defects, known as Minor Physical Anomalies (MPAs), reported from Medical Daily. The results of the study indicate that certain aspects of neurodevelopment can influence a person's risk of pedophile tendencies.

Fiona Dyshniku, chief researcher, and her team recruited 140 adults from the Kurt Freund laboratory of the Center for Addiction and Mental Health in Toronto, to undergo certain physical anomalies and hand domination (right or left hand). Each participant assessed aspects of patterns of illegal sexual behavior or harm, using forensic and medical reviews, interview sessions about a history of sexual experience, and testing phallometric for erotic preferences.

The group of men identified as pedophiles tended to have minor facial and head defects compared to other groups of men who were not pedophiles. These facial and head anomalies include split ear lobes, a low or deformed ear shape, wrinkled tongue, a curved fifth finger, a third toe longer than the second finger, a large distance between the big toe and the second finger, and the palate high or sloping.

In addition, a number of previous studies found that pedophile sufferers tended to have an IQ of 10-15 points lower than the average. They are also generally 2.3 cm shorter than men in general.

Facial defects tend to develop due to the tissue layer of the main embryo that forms the main nervous system during the first and second trimesters of pregnancy. This facial defect, which is more common among men, is usually caused by prenatal exposure to viruses, alcohol or drugs, complications of pregnancy, or malnutrition.

The findings of this study also reveal that most left-handed pedophiles, consistent with a number of studies in the past. Hand dominance is decided very early in the life stage and is a direct result of prenatal cognitive development - 30 to 35 percent of left-handed pedophiles.
