Pregnancy is not always easy. Not sure whether you should seek help, or keep trying with your own business?

If you are 35 years and under and have had regular sex without protection (2-3 times a week) for a year without pregnancy, you can consult a fertility expert. If you are between the ages of 35-40, you can schedule a meeting after trying to get pregnant for 6 months, and if you are over 40 years old, you should see an expert after 3 months of trying to get pregnant.

You can immediately consult a fertility expert if you smoke, take certain drugs (such as steroids or psychiatric drugs), have a body mass index below 19 or above 40 (optimal body mass index is between 22-35), or have history of one of the following:

  • pelvic inflammatory disease
  • fibroids
  • endometriosis
  • sexually transmitted infections, such as chlamydia or gonorrhea
  • irregular menstruation
  • surgery on the reproductive organs or intestines
  • DES (drugs used between 1941-1971 to avoid pregnancy) used by your mother when she was pregnant with you
  • chronic diseases, such as diabetes, cancer, thyroid, asthma, or depression

Things that can speed up pregnancy

If you do not want to wait for a year before seeking medical help, but you do not have certain symptoms, you can try basal temperature charting.

By mapping the cycle, you can see if you do not ovulate regularly, or if your luteal phase is not long enough to support pregnancy. You will need medical help if you find this problem.

Some doctors will consider testing for a number of problems before a year if the partner has done basal temperature charting for 6 months, even though there were no obvious problems on the chart

If with charting you can show the doctor that you have sex at the right time for 6 months, and you are still not pregnant, the doctor can investigate further.
