Medical Video: ABC Phonics | Reading for kids Part 1 | LOTTY LEARNS
Don't worry too much about when to start teaching the alphabet to children. At this stage, it is more important to show your toddler how much fun books, stories, songs, and rhythms are. This is a good preparation before he learns to read and write.
Make your child excited about talking about books and stories that you read with them. Use different voices and encourage him to join you. When you finish reading the story, ask the toddler which part is his favorite.
After about 15 months, if you think he is ready, you can help your child understand the meaning of the word, pointing to the words around him.
Wherever you go, you can show your child important words in everyday life. Point out words that he can recognize, including images and logos.
You can also teach your child to recognize his name. For example, you can mark your child's name on the results of his work and designate each letter individually. You can also put alphabet letters that form their names on the door of a child's room, or buy personalized toys or puzzles with children's names.
Toddler children will begin to recognize words from their shapes. Over time, your child will learn to connect words and letters to the sound that your child produces.
When teaching children about letters, focus on the sound of the letter rather than what the name of the letter is. If your child's name starts with B, let him know that his name starts with the sound "Ba". When your child starts school, he will be taught to recognize sounds from individual letters and combinations of letters. This is called phonics.
Singing lots of children's songs can help your child hear the sounds of words. Ask your child to follow when you sing children's songs. You can also introduce alphabet songs.
Remember that you don't have to force your toddler to learn the alphabet if he doesn't seem interested. Children in general do not know the names and sounds of alphabet letters until they are 4 years old.
