To find out whether your sperm quality is good or not, the easiest thing to do is to see how much and how thick your semen or semen is when you take it out. You certainly can't count how many sperm are in your semen to find out if your sperm is good or not. However, can the viscosity of the semen that you take out be a picture of your sperm's condition? Are dilute sperm bad?

What are the signs of healthy sperm?

Signs of semen or healthy sperm can be seen from many factors, ranging from color, amount, smell, and others. In terms of color, normal semen usually has a white or gray color, but sometimes it's also rather yellowish. If your semen is pink or red, maybe your semen is mixed with blood.

Your semen when released like a gel and is rather sticky. Then the semen will melt within 5-40 minutes. The semen that comes out and does not melt (remains thick) can inhibit the movement of sperm in looking for eggs in a woman's womb. This might cause fertility problems.

When viewed from the volume, the average volume of semen that comes out is 2-5 ml (about half to one teaspoon). Less volume of semen (less than 1.5 ml) is called hypospermia. This usually happens when you often ejaculate. Meanwhile, too much semen volume (more than 5.5 ml) is called hyperspermia, usually after you have not taken it out for a long time.

To see sperm count, you need to do a test. And many factors influence the results of this test, such as the length of time between ejaculation and analysis of semen samples, how samples are stored, and so on. The total amount of sperm during normal ejaculation is around 40 million. Quite a lot, right? In fact, you only need one sperm to fertilize the egg.

Does dilute sperm mean that the man is infertile?

The viscosity of semen is one of the easiest things to see to determine whether your sperm is healthy or not. Many men may be concerned about why the semen they release is thinner. However, the actual thickness of semen is not a good way to see if you have good sperm quality or not.

Normal semen usually looks thick and sticky like a gel. This adhesiveness is intended so that semen can stay longer in the female genital area, thereby increasing the chance of sperm to fertilize the egg. Meanwhile, the thickness of semen may also mean that the released semen contains quite a lot of sperm. However, dilute sperm does not mean poor sperm quality and cannot fertilize the egg. Dilute sperm can still make your partner pregnant. Because you really only need one sperm to fertilize the egg and impregnate your partner.

How to deal with runny sperm

Don't worry if your sperm is runny. You can still make several attempts to make your sperm more thick. Some ways that you can do are:

  • Improve your food intake. Your eating intake is enough to determine your sperm fluid texture. One of the nutrients you need is protein.
  • Don't ejaculate too often in one day. One of the factors that determine the consistency of your semen is how often you ejaculate. If you realize that your sperm is thinner than usual, you may have to reduce the frequency of your ejaculation. Give time for sperm in your testis to develop and mature. Ejaculation too often can reduce the quality of your sperm.
  • Don't be too fast when you want to get your sperm out. Before you decide to remove your sperm, you should take a little time to prepare it. This can help the body to produce additional testosterone, and improve the quality of your sperm and erection. Ejaculation that is too fast can make your testosterone levels low, weaken libido, and reduce your sexual potential.
  • Don't wear clothes that are too tight. Remember, the hot temperature in the testicles can interfere with your sperm production. When you wear clothes that are very tight, this will increase your body temperature, especially when exercising.
