This of course will be very dangerous when we lose consciousness when driving a vehicle because we cannot control the direction and speed of the vehicle. Not all drowsiness causes a person to experience microsleep, but there are a number of things that increase your risk of experiencing microsleep:

  • Sleep disturbance - a decrease in brain performance during the day can be caused by sleep disorders that reduce the quantity and quality of sleep times such as insomnia and sleep apnea.
  • Have sleep debt - In general, a night's sleep time that is less than 6 hours causes you to have a debt of sleep and this can accumulate before you fall asleep according to the lack of sleep. The amount of sleep debt will increase the risk of experiencing microsleep anytime.

  • When you feel tired or sleepy immediately stop and use the time to fall asleep for a moment, if you are driving long distances take a break every 1-2 hours.

  • Do activities that keep you awake like chatting while driving or use a type of public transportation that allows you to walk and stand.
