Medical Video: Dr. Oz Explains Sweat

So far, many people say that men are more likely to sweat more than women. Hmmm ... what's true, huh? See the explanation below.

Why do humans sweat?

Everyone sweats, it's just that everyone has different reasons for sweating. Because, everyone produces sweat in different amounts. This is because the sweat glands in each person's body are different in nature. When you do activities that cause an increase in body temperature, such as exercise or other movement activities, the body will tend to sweat.

Sweating is one of two ways to cool the body due to the evaporation process. Everything caused by stress factors or exposure to hot temperatures will increase body temperature. This is what causes the body to react to sweat. Alternatively, the body will increase the amount of blood flow to the skin surface so that heat can be transferred to the air.

Do men sweat more than women?

Based on a study published in the journal Experimental Physiology, the assumption that men sweat more than women is actually not right. Because, to find out how many people sweat can be known through the size and shape of a person's body, not based on sex.

Sean Notley as leader of the study said, gender is not a factor that affects sweat production and an increase in a person's blood flow when facing high temperatures or hot pressure.

Based on the research conducted, the researchers finally found that the body's main cooling method depends on the size and shape of a person's body. In particular, smaller people, both men and women, are more dependent on increasing blood flow to the skin to cool the body than to sweat. So this is what makes small people tend to sweat less.

Body size affects the production of one's sweat

This conclusion was obtained through research conducted by involving 36 male and 24 female participants, who participated in a sports experiment in a special room. During the experiment, the researchers calculated the total body size of participants using a ratio of the total body surface to their body weight. In addition, the researchers also measured the body temperature, blood flow and sweat of the participants.

As a result, they found that the average respondent sweated at the same level. But a striking difference is seen in those who have a larger body size. Small-bodied participantsboth men and women, their bodies tend to experience increased blood flow to the skin to regulate body temperature. While those who have large bodies tend to sweat.

So, people who have a bigger posture, either because of their height or weight, will tend to sweat more than those who have smaller bodies.

Men tend to have larger bodies, with greater body weight and muscle mass. So, it's no wonder that men sweat more than women. That's why the notion that men sweat is more likely because the average body of a man is bigger than a woman, and not because of his sex.
