Preparation before installing an IUD
Initially, the medical officer or doctor will give you painkillers such as ibuprofen one hour before the IUD is inserted. The point is to help reduce pain and discomfort during the installation of the device into the uterus.
While waiting for the installation schedule, the doctor will explain to you first about the steps of the procedure and answer any questions you might have about the process.
Furthermore, the doctor or medical officer will conduct a bimanual examination. You do this by inserting two fingers into the vagina and placing the other hand on your stomach to find out the position, size, and movement of the uterus.
The process of stabilizing and measuring the uterine tract
Doctors or medical personnel will use a speculum (a tool resembling a duck's beak) to open your vagina. The vagina will then be cleaned with an antiseptic solution to prevent infection.
The process is continued by injecting local anesthesia into the cervix (cervix) so that the pain is reduced while the tenaculum (cervical stabilizer) is installed.
Then, a sterile device called uterine sound or endometrial aspirators will also be inserted to measure the depth of the uterus. This process is done to ensure that the IUD can be inserted to a depth of 6-9 cm. If the depth of the uterus is less than 6 cm, the IUD must not be inserted.

After the womb's depth is known, uterine sound will be issued. The doctor or medical officer will prepare an IUD that is bent in the arm. Then, the IUD will be entered on inserter specifically in the form of a tube inserted through the vagina.
After reaching the right uterine depth, the IUD will be pushed out of the tube. The bent arm of the IUD will return to its original shape to form the letter T. After that, the inserter, tenaculum, and speculum will be removed from the vagina.
Installation of an actual IUD only takes a few minutes, is not complicated, and does not hurt. Most women only feel mild cramps as pinched during the process.
