But you know, it turns out that green bananas, aka bananas that are not too ripe, are no less nutritious?

Peel completely different nutrients green bananas and yellow bananas

1. Type and sugar content

Green bananas (not to be confused with culinary banana ijo bananas from Makassar, yes!) Taste tastier, even lead to bitter acid, rather than yellow banana. This is because raw bananas do contain fewer sugar levels than those that are ripe.

However, that does not mean that green-skinned bananas do not contain sugar at all. Sugar in green bananas is stored in the form of resistant starch. Resistant starch is a type of carbohydrate that cannot be broken down by digestive enzymes so it cannot be destroyed. Per 100 grams of raw banana (which is still green) contains 8.5 resistant starches, while yellow banana contains only about 1.23 resistant starches.

The more resistant starch contained in a food, the less calories. Not only that, reported by the British Journal of Nutrition, resistant starch intake can behelp you feel full longer, reduce blood sugar, and maintain a healthy digestive system.

Meanwhile, the sugar in yellow bananas is stored in simple forms such as sucrose, fructose and glucose. Simple sugars are easily broken down by the body, making it easy to raise blood sugar. So people with diabetes are actually not advised to eat too many yellow bananas considering the sugar content is quite high.

2. Fat content

Mature bananas contain less fat (monounsaturated fat /mono unsaturated fat and plural unsaturated fats /polyunsaturated fat).

Both types of fat include healthy fats that maintain good HDL cholesterol levels while reducing LDL bad cholesterol levels, which can reduce the risk of heart disease. Research also shows that these two good fats are useful for controlling insulin levels and blood sugar levels which will reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus.

The amount of good fat in the yellow banana includes very little, only about 0.1 gram. However, green bananas contain absolutely no fat. It seems like a ripe banana is slightly superior to a raw banana in this case.

3. The content of antioxidants

In every human body, there are lots of free radicals. Free radicals are molecules that can damage body cells and cause disease.

Bananas are a high-antioxidant food source that can counteract the detrimental effects of free radicals. But if you want to get antioxidant intake from bananas, you should choose the ripe one, huh! The antioxidant content of green bananas is less compared to yellow banana.

4. Vitamins

Bananas contain several types of vitamins that the body needs. Among others, vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, and vitamin C. Research shows that this vitamin content is relatively the same, both in yellow and green bananas.

5. Other micronutrients

Micronutrients play an important role in the process of hormone formation and the immune system. Bananas have several types of micro substances, including magnesium, zinc (zinc), and manganese.

Interestingly, the levels of a number of micronutrients change according to the maturity level of the banana. The ripe "age" of bananas, the magnesium level will decrease. However, the content of zinc and manganese will be even greater in yellow bananas than in green bananas.

Well, now it's clear that there are differences in the nutritional content of the two types of bananas? Although all these substances are needed by the body, but you still need to pay attention to the composition of various elements in bananas, especially for those of you who have diseases such as diabetes.
