Does one of your children have a spoiled nature? Excessive spoils can indeed have a negative impact on the child's future development. Then how to overcome it?
All parents must love their children, therefore they give whatever is asked by the child, allow the child to make mistakes, and do not have the heart to scold them. This is not wrong, but if the feeling of love that is channeled in an improper way of educating, it will affect the development of your own child, one of which causes the child to have an excessive spoiled nature. Research conducted at the Harvard School of Public Health, which involved parents in their research, showed that as many as 88% of parents claimed to have spoiled children.
Of course, almost all children may have been whining, crying, making tantrums, and that is a natural thing for children. But what makes this a problem is the attitude of parents in dealing with their children. It's not uncommon for parents to be undisciplined, inconsistent, and too ek soft ’to face children.
How to deal with spoiled children
Children with spoiled nature will usually do everything they can to get what they want, and when they hear the word no, they will go berserk, angry, whine, kick, and so on. Then what if your child already has a spoiled nature?
1. Be consistent with what you say
One of the things that often causes spoiledness to appear is that you are not consistent with what you have said to the child. When children ask for something they want and then you say they can't fulfill it, then the child will most likely whine or cry because they don't get what they want. Those of you who see and hear children cry, become impatient, then immediately give what they want. From this, the child learns that he will get what he wants if he whines or cries. Therefore, it is not impossible that your child will whine faster if his subsequent requests are not followed.
If you do say "no" at the beginning, then keep the word to the end, even if you have to see your child whine and cry. This is one test for you whether you can be consistent with what has been said. When a child cries, just leave it alone or talk carefully to the child, the reason why you cannot fulfill his request.
2. Provide an explanation that is easy for children to understand
When children ask for something and you cannot or do not want to fulfill it, then give them an explanation of why they cannot get it. Children have the right to be angry, sad, and disappointed if their wishes cannot be fulfilled, but by giving a clear explanation to the child, it will help the child understand about the situation that happened. So after that, it will be easier to overcome his sadness and be able to understand when he should ask for it again.
3. Give praise
When a child does good, it doesn't hurt to praise him, even though the things he does are small. By continuing to praise him, the child will be motivated to do other good. Or you can also give kisses and hugs when they do good. They are not only motivated to do other good deeds, but also feel your love for them.
4. Involve children in various social activities
By involving children in social activities, children will learn to share, communicate, and control their ego. In addition, you can tell and explain various life lessons and moral values that exist within these social groups, of course in easy-to-understand language. For example, you can explain the meaning of thanksgiving, and so on.
Giving punishment is not always bad for children. Giving the right punishment to the child will make the child learn not to repeat the bad thing again. For example, you can confiscate his favorite items or toys when the child does not tidy up his room or bed.
6. Demonstrate and explain good and bad behavior in children
Knowing the good behavior that your child has to do may be familiar to you, but you also have to explain every time you see bad habits or bad behavior that occur around your child. For example, when you go somewhere and see another child whining or going on a rampage for some reason, tell your child that this is a bad thing and explain what will happen if you do it.
