What are the conditions that must be met to adopt a child?
The procedure for adoption of children in Indonesia is regulated in the Decree of the Minister of Social Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia No 41 / HUK / Kep / VII / 1984, concerning the Implementation Guidelines for Licensing for Appointment. Before adopting a child, you must meet the following requirements.
First, You and your partner must be married with a minimum age of 25 years and a maximum of 45 years. Second, at a minimum you and your partner have been married for 5 years when filing for adoption. You and your partner must also submit a written document in the form of information on whether you will not have biological children from an expert doctor, do not have children, have one biological child, or only have one adopted child but do not have biological children.
Third, You and your partner must have established financial and social conditions. If you or your partner is a foreign national, then you need to submit a certificate from your country of origin that you have established financial and social conditions. FourthIf you are not an Indonesian citizen, you must also obtain written approval from the applicant's home government that you are allowed to adopt a child.
Fifth, attaching a certificate of good behavior from the police and a doctor's certificate stating that you and your partner are physically and spiritually healthy. Sixth, for couples who are not Indonesian citizens, you have at least settled in Indonesia for three years as evidenced by a statement from an authorized official.
Seventh, You and your partner have cared for and cared for the child to be adopted at least six months for toddlers, and one year for children aged 3-5 years. What are the procedures for adopting children that must be done?
After fulfilling all the requirements described above, you must undergo the official procedure for adopting children as follows:
First, submit a letter of application to the court in the area of residence of the prospective adoptive child by attaching all the requirements. There are two foundations that have been appointed by the government to serve the adoption process, namely the Sayap Ibu Foundation located in Jakarta and the Matahari Terbit Foundation which is located in Surabaya.
