Medical Video: How breast enlargement surgery is carried out

Definition

What is breast enlargement?

Breast enlargement is a surgical procedure performed to increase breast size, usually in the form of inserting a silicone bag under the breast and then filling the bag with saline water. This silicone expands the breast area to give the impression of a fuller and symmetrical breast.

When do I need to undergo breast augmentation?

Breast enlargement is done for two things, namely:

  • reconstruction - reconstructing the breast after surgical removal of the breast (to treat breast cancer)
  • beautify - enlargement and improvement of breast appearance

Breast bags have capsules made of silicon. The inside can be filled by silicon or saline water.

Silicon used to make breast bags can be liquid or gel (sticky silicone). Liquid and silicone saline water will give the appearance of natural and soft breasts. Silicone gel will make the appearance of the breast firmer and shaped.

Breast bags protected by polyurethane will last longer. Using this type of breast bag will reduce the risk of scarring due to silicone gel around the breast.

Several studies have been conducted to determine whether silicone breast bags are safe or not. There is no scientific evidence to show that women with silicone breast bags are more susceptible to the risk of autoimmune diseases, such as breast cancer and arthritis.

It was reported that there was a relationship between breast bag implants and a rare cancer called anaplastic large cell lymphoma, but the chances of this risk were classified as very low.

The surgeon will make an incision under the breast and separate the surrounding tissue to make room for the breast sac.
