How to work sequential bile acids
The sequester works by binding to bile acids in the intestine and preventing the blood from absorbing it again. Then, the heart will produce more bile to replace lost bile. What are the side effects arising from the use of sequential bile acids?
Sequential bile acids are not absorbed into the body, therefore this drug will not cause systemic side effects (affecting other organs). Common side effects include gastrointestinal and include:
- Constipation
- Stomach ache
- Bloated
- Gag
- Diarrhea
- Weight gain
- Excess gas in the stomach (flatulence)
- Heartburn

Which must be considered
Several types of drugs are available in powder form, so you have to mix them with water, fruit juice or milk. Powder medicines can also be mixed with foods such as applesauce, soups, cereals, and canned fruit.
