Many people think that the world run record is only about the fastest runners - but that's not always true. Here are 10 world records in running that will make you surprised and want to go back to wearing running shoes that have long been stored in a closet.

1. 607 times participated in a marathon in a row

Ricardo Abad Martinez is the person who holds this amazing record. Marathon is believed to require extensive physical and psychological preparation, which means a lot of time for training. Ricardo abandoned his trust by running 607 marathons in a row in 500 days while still working 8 hours per day at the factory.

2. The oldest long-distance runner

Fauja Singh, also known as the Tornado Turban, achieved this title at the age of 100. He began to run a professional marathon when he was 89 years old. When he was 101 years old, Singh joined his last race in Hong Kong. In his running career, Singh completed a total of 9 races in New York, Toronto and London.

3. The longest running distance in the world

The Self-Transcendence 3100 Mile Race with a route length of around 4,989 km giving this title. Madhupran Wolfgang Schwerk completed this race in 41 days, 8 hours, 16 minutes and 29 seconds. Interestingly, Schwerk decided to continue running just to fill a distance of up to 5,000 km.

4. The best runner

As if running on the road was not challenging enough, Cristian Riedll joined the ladder race and won a world record for 13,145 meters of stairs. Within 12 hours, Riedll ran up the steps of Frankfurt’s Tower 185, and then took the elevator down 71 times.

5. Run on the longest rope with the highest height

Freddy Nock is probably the only person who is brave enough for this type of running record. Instead of admiring the view of the Zugspitze, the highest mountain in Germany, he decided to run on the rope of the cable car cable he had previously ridden to reach the top. And he also doesn't need a balance stick.

6. Runner four wilderness

Not only one, but the four extreme deserts: Atacama, Gobi, Sahara and Antarctica. Ryan Sandes was the first person to conquer this almost impossible race. The only two other runners who were tough enough to follow Sandes' steps were German Anne-Marie Flammersfeld and Spanish national Vicente Garcia Beneito.

7. The record runs the farthest plug

While most runners cling to great running gear, Wayne Botha doesn't even need running shoes to break this one run record. It's still quite difficult to imagine how he could run 211 km barefoot or only in 24 hours. No one can ever do it.

8. The world's fastest track record

Who says we have to run forward? Xu Zhenjun did not agree with the normal running direction. He decided that the Beijing International Marathon must be resolved by running backwards. And maybe he was right, because with this backward running style, Xu finished the race in 3:43 hours, while most other conventional runners finished in 4 hours.

9. The longest route in 24 hours

This is a unique form of marathon. Runners are given 24 hours to run as far as they can. The latest world record for male runners is 303.506 km by Yiannis Kouros, for female runners is 252.205 km by Mami Kudo.

10. The most unique and highest running costume

Yes, you are not mistaken. Running clothes can sometimes be quite high and heavy. The 7.3-meter Blackpool Towel costume, weighing 17.5 kg, led David Lawrenson to win his world record for this race, although he had to crawl past the finish line.

Hopefully the best running record in the world above can foster a little motivation in you to start running, keeping in mind that all record holders start slowly but surely.
