Medical Video: How Can You Control Your Dreams
Controlling dreams may sound like something that only happens in movies, as illustrated in the film sci-fi starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Inception. Interestingly, there is a study from Harvard that proves that controlling dreams is not impossible.
It was Deirdre Barrett, assistant clinical professor of psychology at Harvard Medical School who revealed this fact in his book The Committee of Sleep: How Artists, Scientists and Athletes Use Dreams for Creative Problem Solving - and How You Can Too.
Reported IndependentBarrett says we can control our dreams with a technique called 'dream incubation'.
"If you want a dream about a particular subject, focus right when you want to sleep. "When you start dreaming, hold on or focus on the dream image that is related to the subject you are focusing on before you sleep," explained Barrett.
Another way that can make you choose your dream "menu" is by placing a photo or object that describes what you want to dream beside the bed. But remember, if you experience disturbances during sleep, such as falling from a mattress or other things that cause you to wake up, then your dream will also be disturbed.
"If you don't immediately remember and recall your dream before, keep lying down and try to sleep again while staying focused on the previous dream. Who knows, you can come back again. Sometimes the lost dream will come back again in its entirety, "added Barrett.
A dream control tool already exists, but ...
You can also control your dream with a tool called a blindfold Remee. The blindfold that is widely discussed by foreign media claims that it can make us control what we see and do when we dream, precisely when entering lucid dreaming, the overlapping stage between sleep and consciousness.
This eye patch has six LED lights which according to the maker will help users to change the contents of dreams and control the storyline in their dreams. Duncan Fraizer, developer of Remee, was quoted as saying Express, said the blindfold was made to multiply the user's dreams, have better dreams, and make dreams feel more alive.
Although this blindfold has not yet received approval from the medical world, the developers claim Remee can help users understand and control their dreams as well as discuss personal issues. In addition, this blindfold is also allegedly able to help people forget about nightmares.
Responding to Remee's abilities and claims mentioned by the developer, sleep expert Dr. Daniel Erichsen, said that this blindfold is actually harmless.
"This blindfold is not dangerous, but there is no evidence that this blindfold works," Dr. Daniel.
