Why is IUS better than IUD?
IUD types of contraception can make your menstruation more, longer, or more painful in the first 3 to 6 months after installation.
Whereas IUS is the opposite. IUS can actually relieve menstruation in women by suppressing the symptoms of bleeding. That way, using IUS can reduce a woman's risk of developing anemia during menstruation.
Which must be considered if you want to install an IUS
Most women can do the procedure for IUS installation, including women infected with HIV. Except for the following conditions:
- Breast cancer or have experienced it in the last 5 years
- Cervical cancer or uterine cancer
- Liver disease
- Heart disease or stroke
- Pelvic infections due to untreated sexually transmitted infections
- Problems with the uterus or cervix
This contraception can be installed at any time, as long as you are not pregnant. When installed during menstruation, you are immediately protected from pregnancy. However, if another time is installed, use additional contraception (such as a condom) for 7 days after installation.
This contraceptive is also safe to do when you are breastfeeding and does not affect the use of other drugs. After delivery, IUS can be installed 4 to 6 weeks after delivery, either through the vagina or caesarean section. Until now no study has studied the effect of using IUS with body weight, risk of cervical cancer, uterine cancer, or ovarian cancer.
Before being installed, the doctor will examine the inside of your vagina to find out the position and size of the uterus. In addition, you may be asked to do a health check first. After installation, you may feel pain in the vagina. However, this can be overcome with painkillers.
After IUS, you should undergo a routine examination for 3 or 6 weeks to ensure that there is no infection. Possible symptoms of infection that appear, such as:
- High fever
- Leucorrhoea is foul-smelling
- Abdominal pain at the bottom
