Reporting from the official BNN website, blue sapphire is a synthetic compound (man-made) from katinon type drugs. Katinon itself is a stimulant compound found in shrub plants called khat.

This shrub grows in grassland areas in eastern Africa and in southern Arab countries. In the area of ​​origin, khat leaves are often chewed to get a stimulant effect, similar to the tradition of chewing in Indonesia.

Katinon will be formulated again with other chemicals in the laboratory to produce a new psychoactive substance called 4-chlorometkatinon (4-CMC) which is marketed as blue sapphire. This synthetic product is actually more dangerous than the simple katinon contained in the khat plant.

The type of synthetic drug katinon lately increasingly widespread because the price is relatively cheaper than drugs in general. In addition, because there are still new types, in various parts of the world of drugs there is no legal umbrella. However, in Indonesia, 4-CMCs have been registered as class I drugs.
