Before transvaginal ultrasound
The doctor will generally give instructions on what you should do before performing a transvaginal ultrasound. If necessary, you will usually be asked to empty the bladder or fill it in part to make it easier for the examination process to take place.
If the bladder must be full, you should drink plenty of water about one hour before the start of the examination.
You must remove clothes from the waist down, then replace them with special clothes for examination. If you are menstruating, you should release the sanitary napkins and tampons you are currently using.
During transvaginal ultrasound
Shortly before the examination begins, you are asked to lie down on a special bed with the position of the legs bent so that they are wide open (astride position). Then the doctor will insert a device called the transducer into the vagina, which has been applied to the lubricating gel beforehand.
Transducers that are already inside the uterus will clearly describe the state of your reproductive organs through the monitor. During this examination, the doctor will continue to change the direction of the transducer until all of your internal organs are observed and nothing is missed. That way, your doctor can assess the overall condition of your body.
After transvaginal ultrasound
It's natural if you feel a little uncomfortable after a transvaginal ultrasound examination is complete, because your vaginal muscles may stiffen during the procedure. But usually this condition will not last long, and will soon recover by itself.
The results of transvaginal ultrasound examination will be examined and further analyzed by the radiologist. After that, it is sent back to the doctor to be observed so that conclusions can be made regarding the condition of the organs in your reproduction.
