On the first day your baby is 6 months old, it's time for you to give him solid food.

The taste of the taste will help the baby recognize and choose which foods he likes and which foods he does not want. Your baby can now distinguish sweet, salty, bitter and tasteless.

Stage of taste development

When you are 6-12 months old, your baby should be able to:

  • Distinguish the different flavors of your milk
  • Try eating your own food at the age of 7 or 8 months
  • Imitate you and your reaction to food
  • Start seeing and reaching for food nearby

He may also be able to:

  • Demonstrates strong reactions to new tastes
  • Start getting used to familiar flavors
  • Enjoy a variety of flavors
  • Have more teeth and have better control of the tongue and lips
  • Ready to try cooked vegetables, soft fruit, and eat with fingers
  • Start eating with a spoon

Your role

At this age, your baby may already know which foods he likes and which ones he doesn't like. Don't be discouraged if your baby only wants to eat one or two types of food. By giving him food that varies continuously, you will make him know that he can choose other foods, and you will be surprised when he tries something new.

To support your baby's taste, always remember to make him feel safe in trying out new tastes. Always pay attention to what he eats, and make sure the other family members only give him food that his age-old baby can eat.

If you are worried that your baby has a food allergy, introduce one by one new food and wait a while before trying another meal. This will make it easier for you to recognize which foods turn out to cause allergies, and which ones make your baby most enthusiastic.
