Medical Video: 'Solar kids' who stop moving at night perplex doctors in Pakistan

Have you ever heard of "solar kids"? Lately, the world has been confused with the solar kids incident experienced by 3 brothers from a village in Pakistan.

It is said solar kids because these three children are active like ordinary children during the day when there is sun, but at night they cannot do anything, only lying weakly on the bed. Parents and villagers said that the three children got energy from the sun so they were called solar kids.

This disease is quite strange and has only recently been reported in these three children from all over the world. Various studies have been carried out, but no reason has been found why this can happen to these three children.

What is solar kids?

Three brothers in a village called Mian Kundi in Pakistan are known as solar kids. They are 1 year old (Ilyas), 9 years old (Rasheed), and 13 years old (Ahmed). They are like ordinary children during the day when the sun starts to rise, but when the sun begins to set, they are like running out of energy, unable to do anything (vegetative state).

The situation of the three siblings is confusing medical science. They have three other brothers, but this oddity only befalls them. This is the first case reported worldwide.

The doctors have examined and performed various tests to find out why this happened to the three siblings, but there are no results until now. As reported by ibtimes.co.uk, Dr. Javed Akram of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences said that this case is a challenge for medical science to solve it. All medical care carried out by the three brothers was funded by the government because they came from poor families.

Akram and his team collaborated with a team of international medical experts to solve the mystery of solar kids. Their blood samples have been sent to 13 collaborating international medical experts, including from the Mayo Clinic, the John Hopkins Medical Institute in the United States, and Guys Hospital in London. One team also collected sand and water samples from the village of the three brothers hoping to solve this mystery. However, no results have been found so far even though hundreds of tests have been conducted. Still need further research to find out why this oddity can occur in the three brothers.

How is the life of the kids solar kids?

Children who suffer from solar kids live life like normal children during the day, starting from waking up, then going to school. Even in school they can play with friends, including doing physical activities such as playing cricket. After school they still help their parents to take care of sheep and family goats.

However, when the sun began to sink, the three brothers began to become weak and paralyzed. Even to speak and eat they cannot do it if it gets dark Therefore, they usually have completed their routines and assignments before sunset because from that time on their inability phase is active.

Although the three children suffered from a strange illness, they remained energetic and cheerful in carrying out their activities during the day. They also still have high ideals, namely wanting to become Islamic teachers and scholars. This spirit of life should be exemplified by other more fortunate children.

Are they really dependent on the sun?

The cause of the peculiarities of solar kids is still a mystery until now. Their father thought that his three children were getting energy from the sun because their children were paralyzed or had a vegetative state when the sun was setting, but they could still carry out their activities like other children when there was sun.

However, after further investigation, doctors have rejected the idea that sunlight acts as the cause of this solar kids weirdness. The doctor took this conclusion because when placed in a dark room during the day, the kids of solar kids are still able to move. Reporting from dawn.com, the father of the three children also thought that they were more attached to time than the sun. When the sun does not appear during the day due to thick clouds or rain, they can still do activities as usual. Need further research to uncover this mystery.
