Medical Video: Do Vaccines Cause Autism? (Guest: Del Bigtree) THE HEALTH AWAKENING Ep. 122

Immunization or vaccination is an act of giving substances derived from germs, both dead and weakened. It is expected that by giving this vaccine, the body's defense system recognizes the germ, so that the body can handle it if one day it becomes infected. Immunization in children is a topic of debate that is not over. Some parents do not give immunizations to children due to fear of side effects of autism, although many recent studies have stated otherwise.

How was immunization initially accused of being the cause of autism?

This immunization controversy began in 1998, Dr. Andrew Wakefield and his colleagues conducted a study with a sample of 8 children who experienced early symptoms of autism after receiving MMR immunization 1 month earlier. In addition, these eight children also found digestive disorders. Endoscopy is then performed and an enlarged digestive lymph node is found. Dr. Andrew then assumed that the MMR vaccine caused inflammation in the intestine, so that proteins that should not be in the bloodstream could enter and flow into the brain, where these proteins cause developmental disorders.

Another theory states that themoral, ethylmercury compounds contained in vaccines, are toxic substances to the human nervous system. In addition, it was also mentioned that administering vaccines together can weaken the body's immune system which leads to autism suffered by children.

The myth is wrong but takes a lot of casualties

These various theories cause parents to think twice about giving immunizations to children. As a result, an endemic disease arises that can be prevented by immunization, such as measles in England and Wales in 2008. Another example is polio which again plagued Sukabumi which is only a few hours from the capital, whereas in 1995 Indonesia was declared polio free.

If only parents knew more about immunization, such an event might be prevented. Therefore, let's learn more about immunization so we don't make a wrong decision someday.

MMR vaccine causes autism, really?

Dr. Andrew said that the MMR vaccine causes intestinal inflammation which leads to autism in children, even though the symptoms of autism are not preceded by a disturbance in the digestive system. In addition, the viruses contained in MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella) have been shown to not cause inflammation of the intestines, nor damage to the membranes that line the digestive system. Protein which according to Dr. Andrew flows from the bloodstream to the brain and causes damage to date not proven.

Thimerosal compounds cause autism, really?

The ethylmercury content found in thimerosal is thought to cause autism. However, this argument is further broken by differences in the symptoms experienced by autistic children and children with mercury poisoning. Other research also states that the mercury content in vaccines is still below the threshold and will not cause poisoning.

Simultaneous immunization causes autism, really?

After the danger theory of MMR and thimerosal vaccines was successfully broken, the anti-vaccine group proposed a new theory that giving vaccines together could weaken the body's defense system, resulting in nervous system interactions that cause autism in children at risk. Over time, this theory was broken by several reasons, namely:

  • Child defense system, even children who are just a matter of days, can still give a positive response to several vaccines given at once.
  • Autism is not a disease caused by a disruption of the body's defense system. There are no studies that prove that the disruption of the defense system or inflammation of the nervous system can cause autism.

Proved to be a fraud attempt

In 2004, colleagues Dr. Andrew stated to withdraw the writing, but Dr. Andrew still insists on maintaining his research. Funny thing is, Dr. Andrew was not brave when asked to repeat his research to obtain valid results.

It was an English journalist, Brian Deer, who exposed the facts of forgery and errors in the research. After 7 years of investigation, Brian concluded that Dr. Andrew and his colleagues changed the patient's statement and medical record to fit the results of his research. It was also revealed that the institution that houses Dr. Andrew, the Royal Free Hospital and Medical School, supports the actions of Dr. Andrew in order to get financial benefits from the demands of vaccine manufacturers based on complaints of autism in children who receive MMR immunization.

At present, practice permission from Dr. Andrew has been revoked, as well as his academic and clinical credentials. The Lancet, the magazine in which this research was published, revoked this research publication in 2010, and the following year British Medical Journal states that this research is intentional fraud with a large impact on global public health.

After reading this article, still believe immunization makes children autistic?
