After lung surgery, the doctor will recommend you to consult a physiotherapist. Physiotherapy has an important role in your recovery process. To maximize your recovery process, you need to keep moving and active every hour you wake up. This can also help with pain. Here are some sports that can help you restore your strength.

Take care of your posture

After surgery, your body will tend to tilt to the operated side. This can cause muscle spasms, so it will feel painful and uncomfortable. You can look in the mirror to maintain your posture. You can also ask your family and friends if your posture tends to be sideways. It might feel uncomfortable to adjust your posture, but over time you will get used to it.

Walk early for deeper breath

You can prevent complications by walking after surgery. Walking can make you breathe deeper and expand your lungs. This can help you remove excess secretions from the lungs by coughing, so that infections can be prevented. Your physiotherapist will tell you how to increase the number of roads during your stay in the hospital and when you are at home. Here are some tips for deep breathing:

Remember to breathe through your nose and remove it from your mouth.

Place your hands on the abdomen between your stomach and chest. Your hands will feel like on a balloon. Remove air through your mouth by relaxing.

Place both hands on both sides of your chest. When you take a deep breath, try to stretch your hands away from each other on each side of your chest. Then relax the air through your mouth.

After deep breathing(breathing deeply), you can cough if needed. Make sure you do not cough too hard, because it will feel pain in the operated area.

Arm sports

You may feel stiff or hard around the ribs. To overcome the feeling of tightness, you can do arm exercises according to instructions from a physiotherapist. These exercises can include:

Shoulder Flexion: Lift your hands upward facing the ceiling and hold for 10 seconds, then lower slowly. Try not to force yourself. Lift until you feel comfortable without pain.

Shoulder abduction: Lift your hands to the side, out and away from the body.

Side flexion: Start with both arms relaxed on each side of the body. Gently lean to one side with one hand moving toward the foot. Rest away from the operated side to feel the stretch on that side.

Postural stretch: Sit upright on a chair while holding a stick or towel with a wide handle. Then lift the stick or towel up with your hands as straight as possible.

You can do these exercises every morning and evening, at least 3 times, while holding each movement for at least 10 seconds. Your semia will see progress in 4-6 weeks. Avoid lifting weights that are heavier than 4 kilos such as children, pets, groceries or laundry baskets for the first 1 week after surgery.

Exercise not only helps you recover after lung surgery, but also helps your overall health. Don't stop this exercise after you recover. These simple exercises can help your heart to be healthier with lung cancer.
