1. Definition

Is that a poisonous spider bite?

Spiders are a type of insect that can be the cause of your child's bumps that occur at night when they sleep. The bite of a spider is not as severe as a mosquito bite, and the effect is sometimes not felt. Many people usually worry about spiders such as tarantulas, hairy black spiders that are quite large. In fact, the tarantula is not dangerous, and the toxins only cause reactions that resemble bee stings.

What are the signs and symptoms?

More than fifty types of spiders can cause a reaction to you but the reaction is harmless (for example, the type of spider in the garden). The bite of the spider is usually painful and will cause mild swelling for 1 or 2 days, similar to bee stings.

2. How to handle it

What should I do?

Clean bite marks with soap and water. Then rub with a cotton ball soaked with meat tenderizer (meat softener) dissolved in water for 10 minutes. But do not wash bite marks if the bite is near the eyes. But if meat tenderizer not available, replace with ice cubes.

When do I have to see a doctor?

Contact your doctor immediately if:

  • Muscle spasms occur in the bite area
  • Blister or purple bite area
  • Pain that does not disappear
  • Other new symptoms appear
  • You feel your child needs to be examined

3. Prevention

You can do the following steps to avoid spider bites.

  • Wear long sleeves shirts, hats, gloves, and boots when cleaning storage boxes or firewood stacks, also when cleaning warehouses, garages, basements, attics and other narrow areas.
  • Check and shake the glove so that whatever is inside can come out. Do the same thing before wearing shoes and clothes that you happen to have not worn for a long time.
  • Use insect repellent, on clothing and footwear.
  • Try insects and spiders not to enter the house by installing mosquito nets on windows and doors in your home, or by caulking / closing cracks or cracks where spiders can enter.
  • Dispose of old boxes, clothes, and other items not used from the storage area.
  • Store items that you want to keep away from the floor and walls.
  • Get rid of piles of stone or wood from the area around your house.
  • Avoid storing firewood near the walls of the house.
  • Suck spiders and spider webs with a vacuum cleaner and dispose of it in a closed bag outside to prevent them from getting back into the house.
