1. Definition
What is tailbone trauma?
The coccyx (or coccyx) is a small bone at the bottom of the spine. Ordinary coccyx injuries when falling on hard surfaces, such as slippery floors or stairs. Pain is usually caused by bone bruising or stretching of the ligament. Cracked coccyx is rare and they heal well, so X-rays are not needed for this injury. Dislocation of the fractured coccyx is very rare, but this condition needs to be corrected by a doctor.
What are the signs and symptoms?
Signs and symptoms include:
- Bruising at the bottom of the spine
- Pain when sitting or if there is pressure on the coccyx.
2. How to overcome them
What should I do?
Bruising of the coccyx will usually hurt for 3 to 4 weeks. Take acetaminophen or ibuprofen for 2 or 3 days. Putting a pillow on a chair before sitting can reduce pressure. Warm pillows can also help.
When do I have to see a doctor?
Ask for medical help if:
- Alleged spinal injury
- The patient cannot move
- Severe pain
3. Prevention
To prevent trauma to the coccyx:
- Do not run on slippery surfaces, such as near swimming pools
- Wear shoes of good quality, especially in the rainy season
