Even though science has developed rapidly, there are still many myths of labor circulating in the community. This often makes pregnant women afraid of childbirth. Come on, find out the facts behind all the existing birth myths.
Various birth myths that you don't need to believe anymore
1. Broken amniotic fluid is a sign that you will give birth soon
In fact, ruptured membranes do not always indicate that you will be giving birth soon.
Laura Dean, M.D., an obstetrician from Stillwater Medical Group in Minnesota, revealed to Parents that about 85 percent of women give birth immediately within 24 hours after their fetus breaks. However, 15 percent of other women need 4 to 5 days before delivery.
2. Provision of induction will accelerate labor
Provision of induction does not always accelerate labor. Because, every woman has a different response to induction.
Pregnant women who have experienced dilation and thinning of the cervix tend to be better at responding to induction so the delivery process becomes faster. On the other hand, some other women actually experience a longer and more painful delivery time because their body is not ready to give birth.
3. Childbirth is definitely sick
This birth myth is one of the most feared myths by pregnant women. Even though in reality, not all labor processes are sick, you know.
Every woman has different pain tolerance limits. The greater your acceptance during childbirth, the easier it will be for you to endure pain during childbirth.
4. Having a large pelvis can speed up labor
This one birth myth is still widely believed by some pregnant women. In fact, women with large pelvis are not guaranteed to undergo easy labor.
Although from the outside it looks big, not a few women who in fact have small pelvis. As a result, the labor process becomes more difficult and long.
5. The second labor process is easier
Indeed, second, third, and so on deliveries generally run faster. This is because the condition of the cervix, pelvic floor muscles, and birth canal has been 'opened' with the process of giving birth to the first child.
Even so, this does not mean that the second labor will also not be the first labor. Pain has become a natural thing at birth, but at least the pain in the second labor tends to not last long.
