When you drink coffee, caffeine moves with the blood and will circulate around the brain. This causes a reaction between caffeine and adenosine. Initially caffeine will ward off adenosine and prevent the body from becoming limp, but the effect does not last long.

Within a few hours of drinking coffee, the effects of caffeine will disappear and adenosine which continues to be produced by the brain will again dominate, even in greater numbers because you really haven't slept. Yes, coffee really cannot reduce the production of adenosine. Caffeine in coffee is only able to inhibit adenosine from entering special receptors in the brain. Again, adenosine production will only decrease when you sleep.

Then, the more caffeine consumed, your wake and sleep cycle can be disrupted. You will most likely have trouble sleeping. Over time, your body will feel very tired because you don't get enough time to rest.

However, after that you are likely to experience a drastic deterioration in energy, usually after 90 minutes of sugar is consumed along with coffee. Finally, the deterioration of energy makes your body sluggish and weaker than before.

4. Caffeine causes fatigue of the adrenal glands

The adrenal gland is above the kidney and functions to produce many hormones that regulate energy, mood, and overall health. When you drink coffee, caffeine triggers the adrenal gland to respond while producing hormones, one of which is cortisol.

The more caffeine consumed, means the adrenal gland continues to be active and eventually causes fatigue of the adrenal glands. In addition, the production of the hormone cortisol can make it difficult for you to sleep at night and reduce your stamina the next day.

If you often feel symptoms of fatigue and weakness, try to pay attention to your coffee drinking habits. Consider reducing coffee intake and drinking just enough. However, do not reduce coffee intake suddenly because it can cause headaches. The body needs time to adapt to substances that normally enter the body.
