Every food and drink you consume will be digested in the stomach and then channeled into energy. The stomach is one part of the digestive system, but have you known what are the functions of each part of the human stomach? Come on, see the following gastric anatomy!

Recognize gastric function in the digestive system

The stomach is a pocket-shaped organ resembling the letter J which is located in the upper part of the stomach. This one digestive organ is filled with muscles and blood vessels. The size of the stomach can change shape following the human posture and how much food is in the stomach when eating.

Well, before reviewing more about human gastric anatomy, you need to understand gastric function first.

The stomach has three main functions, namely:

  1. Temporary food storage, for at least two hours or more before being distributed to the next digestive organ
  2. Breaking and stirring food through peristalsis triggered by the work of the stomach muscle layer
  3. Digest and destroy food with the help of gastric enzymes

What is human anatomy like?

The human stomach is connected with two channels at each end. The upper end of the stomach is connected to the esophagus, aka the esophagus, the tube-shaped canal which is the entrance of food from the mouth. The meeting area between the esophagus and the stomach is called the gastroesophageal (GE) junction.

While the bottom of the hull is connected with small intestine, a long hose-shaped organ that connects the stomach to the large intestine. The first tip of the small intestine is called the duodenum. This duodenum is directly connected to the stomach.
