Medical Video: Should You Trust Your Gut Instinct?

Have you ever been faced with a number of choices and then you immediately chose without thinking? Maybe then you rely on your intuition and feelings. Your intuition says that everything will work better if you choose that decision. Intuition can come at any time, even when you are playing chess or other games that make you have to take steps in turn, intuition appears and gives you ideas about what to do.

But, try asking yourself, how confident are you with the intuition you have? Everyone has their own intuition, but not everyone believes in their intuition. However, did you know that intuition can be explained scientifically? Even various studies state that intuition is the most appropriate answer when we are faced with several choices.

How can intuition be formed? How can intuition produce the right decision? Then, does everyone have the same intuition skills? Here is the explanation.

What is intuition?

Intuition is an idea or idea that arises from an individual and is used as a consideration in making a decision without being preceded by deliberate analysis. The issue of intuition has been debated by philosophers and scientists since ancient Greek times and only now do researchers know how intuition is formed and where it comes from.

Some studies have proven that intuition can help someone make the right decision. For example, research carried out in the 1980s involving nurses as respondents indicated that nurses who had worked for longer periods of time could make quick decisions but the results were good and right. In this study, the emergence of a quick decision is called intuition.

Other studies conducted on people who will buy a car. From these studies, consumers who collect information in advance regarding the car to be purchased and spend time when choosing a car, turned out to produce only 25% satisfaction. While people who immediately choose the car they buy and rely on their intuition, have a higher sense of satisfaction, which is around 60%. From the various studies, scientists concluded that someone who makes choices quickly and uses his intuition more often produces the right decisions.

Where does intuition come from?

In the brain, there are two types of systems of thinking, namely the conscious system and the unconscious system (subconscious). The part of the brain that regulates the human conscious system is the left brain and this system works more slowly, becomes the center of analysis, rational, works based on facts and experiences that have happened, and all that this system does is known to you. While the subconscious or unconscious system, regulated by the right brain, the work is not known consciously, and produces a rapid response.

Then what about intrusion? Intuition is regulated by your subconscious system. True intuition also comes from information or experiences that you have experienced before, but that information is in your subconscious. When intuition arises, the decision is a decision that arises from your subconscious. So, intuition appears without you having to think carefully and analyze all the events that have happened, suddenly appearing.

Then do I have to trust my intuition?

Many people underestimate intuition. Though from various studies that have been done, shows that intuition can be the best and correct answer if you can hone it. Yes, intuition also needs to be honed. According to the researchers, intuition will change for the better with time and depends on how often you use it.

The reason you need to consider intuition is because intuition often 'knows' what's best for you even though it can't be understood and analyzed consciously. Experts even state that your subconscious system already knows the correct answer before the system knows it. So, never underestimate the intuition that arises when you are under difficult choices. Sometimes intuition knows what you have to choose compared to your analysis which takes a long time.
