After swallowing large amounts of grass poison, you may experience severe swelling and pain in the mouth and throat and blistering tongue. Other signs of high-dose grass poisoning are rapid / abnormal heartbeat, heavy sweat, muscle weakness, abdominal pain, vomiting (can vomit blood), difficulty breathing, and diarrhea (which may bleed). Damage to the kidneys and liver can cause the eyes to turn yellow.

Paraquat poisoning can also cause dehydration, low blood pressure shock (hypotension), fluid filled lungs, and heart failure. All of these reactions can be fatal, coma or even death - both fast and slow. In some cases of paraquat poisoning, victims can survive in one to two weeks, but usually lead to death.

Helping poisoned people drink grass poison

If you find the person closest to you who committed suicide by drinking grass poison or accidentally ingesting this poison for one reason or another, immediately do the first aid effort below:

  1. Call 119 or poisoning emergency number at (021) 7256526, (021) 7257826, (021) 7221810.
  2. Don't wait for help to come and it's better to rush to the hospital immediately, if the poisoning victim experiences one of these things:
    • Looks drowsy, dazed, or unconscious
    • Difficulty breathing or stopping breathing
    • An uncontrollable feeling of excitement or anxiety
    • Experience seizures
  3. Get rid of whatever is still in the victim's mouth. If poisons are suspected to be home cleaning or other chemicals, read the container label and follow the guidelines for accidental poisoning.
  4. Remove all contaminated clothing. Put clothes in plastic and tie or solate tightly so that they are not touched by others.
  5. If the victim vomits, tilt your head to the side to prevent choking.
  6. If the victim shows no signs of life, such as not moving, breathing, or coughing, immediately do cardiac resuscitation (CPR).
  7. If poisons hit the skin, rinse immediately with soap and water for 15 minutes. Don't rub it too hard because it can damage your skin and even encourage toxins to enter deeper into the body.
  8. If poison enters the eye, siran with running water for 15 minutes
  9. Give victims who are still aware of drinking activated charcoal to neutralize toxins in the body

At the ED, be prepared to explain information about the victim regarding symptoms, age, weight, drugs he uses, and other information that you know about the cause of poisoning. Try to determine the amount of poison that has been swallowed and how long it has been since the victim was exposed to the poison. If possible, bring a suspicious bottle, container or other packaging so that you can refer to the label when reporting to the medical officer or the authorities.
