When you are registered as a member of insurance, this means that you have agreed on the rights and obligations that you make with the insurance company. This is so that you can use the insurance to the maximum and the process runs smoothly. One of the obligations that you must obey is to pay premiums or insurance fees on time. Do not let you pay late for insurance premiums.
Why do you pay for insurance premiums late?
1. Participation status will be suspended temporarily
Paying premiums on time is the most important obligation of insurance participants. If you are late paying premiums, this will affect your membership status.
The insurance company will stop your membership status for a while until you pay the agreed premium or contribution. If your membership status is not active, then this means you cannot use the insurance alias the claim will be rejected.
This also applies to those of you who are registered as participants of the National Health Insurance - Healthy Indonesia Card (JKN-KIS) from BPJS Kesehatan. In accordance with Presidential Regulation No. 28 of 2016 concerning Health Insurance, if the BPJS participant is late paying a premium alias BPJS contribution for one month, the guarantee to the participant will be suspended temporarily.
This guarantee will return active after you pay off all arrears and pay contributions on time. After that, you can only re-utilize the health services guaranteed by the BPJS in accordance with applicable regulations.
2. Fines
For those of you who like to pay late insurance premiums, be careful you can get fines. This includes those of you who are registered as members of the BPJS Kesehatan.
Based on Presidential Regulation No. 28 of 2016 concerning Health Insurance, the maximum limit for paying insurance premiums is 30 days. Take it easy, you will not be charged a fine when paying the BPJS contribution bill.
However, after you pay off arrears, you cannot use a BPJS card for inpatient services 45 days after the BPJS card is back on. If within 45 days you need an inpatient service guaranteed by BPJS Kesehatan, then you will be charged a fine of 2.5 percent of the total cost and multiplied by the number of months in arrears.
The example is this: You are registered as a class I BPJS individual participant and late in paying contributions for 3 months. Then, you must be hospitalized for a total cost of 20 million rupiah. So, you will be fined 2.5 percent of the total arrears, so the amount of the fine you have to pay is 1.5 million rupiah.
As a solution, you should wait 45 days since your BPJS Health card is active again. That way, you can take advantage of inpatient services smoothly without being burdened with fines.
3. Membership status is blocked
If you continue to pay late premiums and don't pay them, then the worst possibility is that your membership status will be deactivated. That means you can no longer use the insurance that you have in any health service.
Based on the provisions of the standard policy at the Indonesian General Insurance Association (AAUI), premium payments or insurance contributions must be paid in full within 30 days. If it exceeds this time and the costs continue to be in arrears for a certain period of time, then your membership status will automatically cancel by itself.
As a result, you have to make insurance again from the start and comply with the obligations agreed upon with the insurance company. So that this doesn't happen, make sure you always pay the premium on time, huh!
