Medical Video: GREEN TEA vs COFFEE

Green coffee (green coffee) andgreen tea (green tea) has been used recently to help you lose weight. Green coffee is made from coffee that is not processed or not baked, so the color is still green. Meanwhile, green tea is only processed minimally, only experiencing a little oxidation process, so the color is still green. But, do you know which one is the best among green coffee and green tea?

Green coffee

Besides containing caffeine, coffee beans contain compounds known as chlorogenic acid. This compound can be an antioxidant, but it can also help lower blood pressure and help you lose weight. Chlorogenic acid can increase metabolism so that your body will burn fat instead of storing fat. This is the reason why coffee can lose weight. However, chlorogenic compounds can be reduced when baked. Therefore, drinking regular coffee (not green coffee) only has very little weight loss effect.

Unlike green coffee from un roasted coffee beans, this green coffee certainly has more chlorogenic acid than ordinary coffee. So, you can use green coffee to lose weight. A study in the journal Gastroenterology Research and Practice in 2011 also proved that green coffee extract can have benefits in helping to lose weight. However, this proof is still very small and is not a long-term study. Other studies published in Diabetes, Metabolic Syndrome and Obesity Targets and Therapy in 2012 also prove that green coffee can help you lose weight.

Green tea

Green tea contains a lot of antioxidant compounds. One of the strong antioxidant compounds that green tea has is catechins. This compound is 100 times stronger than vitamin C. Catechins are flavonoid polyphenols that can protect the body from free radicals. In addition, it can also help you lose weight by increasing energy expenditure and accelerating fat burning.

However, catechins appear to be more effective in losing weight with the help of caffeine compounds, where caffeine compounds are also found in green tea. A study in the Journal of Nutrition in 2009 showed that participants who were given drinks containing catechins and caffeine could lose more weight and belly fat than participants who were only given drinks containing caffeine.

The consumption of green tea extract in the long term has also been shown to help reduce weight as much as 1-1.5 kg for 12 weeks. If the consumption of green coffee extract is combined with regular exercise, the results of weight loss will be greater.

Which is healthier?

Green coffee and green tea, both of which you can use to lose weight. Green coffee and green tea can increase your metabolism, so the body can burn fat faster. However, both also contain caffeine, which can cause anxiety, insomnia, increase heart rate, make you urinate more often, and various other side effects.

Coffee itself contains more caffeine than tea. Coffee contains about 100 mg of caffeine per cup, while tea only contains caffeine of 14-60 mg per cup. When viewed from the caffeine content, certainly better is green tea. In addition, green tea also contains lots of antioxidants. Also, there have been many studies that prove that green tea can help you lose weight.

However, even better is if you reduce your calorie intake per day and exercise. Choose foods that contain lots of fiber, such as fruits and vegetables, so you feel fuller for longer. Also, limit your fat consumption, especially saturated fat and trans fat. You can get healthy fats from nuts, avocados, canola oil, and olive oil. And, do exercise regularly, at least 150 minutes per week. This combination of all can certainly cut your weight more.
