Medical Video: If White Rice is Linked to Diabetes, What About China?
Corn rice is one of the staple foods of Indonesian people in certain regions, such as in East Nusa Tenggara and East Java, or in other regions which produce a lot of corn, not rice. Corn rice is not a mixture of rice and corn. But, it is processed corn with a form resembling rice. So, when you eat corn rice, what you actually eat is corn.
Many people say, eating rice corn can help control blood sugar so it is good for people with diabetes compared to white rice. Is it true?
Corn rice is better for diabetics
Corn is a good source of carbohydrates for the body. Corn also contains enough fiber, so you who have diabetes do not need to worry about eating it. Fiber can help the body release glucose as a source of energy slowly. Thus, blood sugar does not rise immediately after eating corn. So, it's no wonder that many people say that rice corn can help control blood sugar better than eating white rice.
Not only fiber, corn also contains many nutrients, such as iron, vitamin A, vitamin B6, vitamin B1, vitamin B2, vitamin B3, folate, phosphorus, magnesium, manganese, and selenium. So, corn can be a nutritious staple food. However, you should still pay attention to your meal portion, do not overeat corn or corn. And, consume corn by combining it with food sources of protein and vegetables. So, you get complete nutrition while eating.
When compared with white rice, corn has fewer calories. In 100 grams of corn is 140 calories, while 100 grams of white rice has 175 calories. So, you can eat corn rice with more portions but with as many calories as white rice which has fewer portions. That way, your calorie intake and appetite will be more controlled.

Medical research now says that eating corn regularly can help the body control blood sugar better. This of course must be balanced by controlling other foods, especially those that contain lots of sugar.
Reporting from the Asian Journal, professor from the University of Philippines Los Banos, Dr. Artemio Salazar explained that corn could be a good staple for diabetic patients. This is because corn has a higher amylose content than rice. Making corn will be digested more slowly by the body, so that blood sugar will be more controlled.
Better yet, corn has protein, dietary fiber, minerals, and antioxidants which are much higher than other staple foods. However, although white rice with corn rice looks almost similar, but getting used to corn rice consumption seems rather difficult.
For this reason, if you want to switch to eating corn rice (which may feel strange to you), you should switch slowly. You might be able to mix corn rice and white rice first when you try it first, so that it will be easier for your tongue to accept it.
