Concerns that cancer will arise again during pregnancy are experienced by many survivor breast cancer. Is it safe to get pregnant after being free of cancer? Will their hormonal changes trigger cancer to come back?
Researchers reveal women who suffer from or have had breast cancer can safely have a baby without having to fear the tumor will reappear. This breaks the myth. Women who are pregnant after being diagnosed with breast cancer and undergoing therapy, have the opportunity to live as much as survivor other cancers that are not pregnant. Note that the study noted that women who choose to become pregnant are a group of women survivor cancer that has a better prognosis (early stage cancer and a high chance of being completely free of cancer). Even so, the decision to make a pregnancy after breast cancer must be considered and established after consulting your oncologist. These considerations include the chance of recovery, whether you are still in the therapeutic stage (such as tamoxifen), and pregnancy allows you to stop therapy or can affect your prognosis.
About 80% of women recover from breast cancer. Discuss with your oncologist about various aspects of your tumor and the therapy you are running. After that, estimate your chances of being fully cured. Women who have not experienced menopause and who have estrogen-sensitive types of breast cancer are generally treated with tamoxifen drugs for five years since the first diagnosis. If you are taking tamoxifen, your doctor will advise you to postpone pregnancy until the therapy is complete.
When you already know the chances of recovery, then you can consider how pregnancy will affect your life chances, and the right time to get pregnant. If you have a medical history of a family with breast cancer and uterine cancer, your doctor may discuss the possibility of a genetic test so you can understand the risk of other cancers, or whether you are fit to be pregnant with the condition you are experiencing right now.
