Triathlon is a sport that combines three sports: swimming, running sprint, and cycling. This sport began in 1974 in California, America.

What is a triathlon?

Triathlon is a sport that trains the strength and endurance of various muscles in the body, because it combines three sports in one match. This combination of sports requires participants to have physical endurance, skills, speed, body balance, and high focus. There are various levels in a triathlon, this level division is based on the distance and duration needed to complete the triathlon match. Here are the levels:

1. Super print

This level consists of swimming 400 meters, cycling 10 kilometers, and running 2.5 kilometers. Super print can be said to be the easiest level to do, because the distance from each sport is not too long. Therefore, this level is suitable for beginners.

2. Sprint

Sprint consists of swimming 750 meters, cycling 10 km, running 5 km. This distance is the most common distance for triathlons. To prepare for a triathlon at this distance, at least you have to do 90 minutes of physical exercise per day or 5 hours a week before the race takes place.

3. Olympics

At the Olympic level you should swim at least 1500 meters, ride 40 km, and run 10 km. As the name suggests, the Olympics stage is the most difficult stage in triathlon because the distance of cycling, swimming, and running is quite long and requires extra physical training if you want to take part in an Olympic triathlon. Usually, Olympic triathlon participants are athletes who are used to doing triathlons and they do physical exercise for at least 6 to 12 hours in one week.

4. Medium distance

This stage consists of swimming 1900 meters, cycling 80 km and 200 km. Triathlon at this stage takes at least 5 to 7 hours and preparation for physical exercise that must be done before the race takes place from 8 to 15 weeks per week.

5. Long distance

Consisting of swimming along 38 km, cycling 112 meters, and running 400 km. This stage is a challenge for physical strength. Middle distance on triathlon must be done by athletes who are already very experienced and strong in their physical endurance. Triathlon at this stage takes more than 7 hours and the required physical training is more than 15 hours per week.

Benefits of joining a triathlon

1. Exercise to train all the muscles in our body

By doing a triathlon, you have practiced almost all the muscles in your body. Swimming strengthens the upper body muscles, cycling and running helps strengthen the lower muscles. Therefore, triathlon is the right exercise if you want to build and strengthen the muscles of the body at once.

2. Program to lose weight

The combination of swimming, cycling and running makes you have to do regular physical exercise to take part in a triathlon. When you routinely do exercises, you also routinely burn calories and fat in the body.

3. Get used to living a healthy pattern

Regular physical exercise is not only enough to support your body in a triathlon, but it is also necessary to eat foods that are healthy, rich in nutrients, and in accordance with the needs needed. By taking a triathlon, get used to paying more attention to what you eat, because what you eat will affect your physical strength when doing a triathlon.

4. Improve body health

Swimming, cycling and running regularly can reduce blood pressure, prevent obesity, diabetes, heart disease, cancer, and even reduce the risk of osteoporosis and depression in adults.

If you want to take a triathlon, then you have to prepare yourself as well as possible, even if you need to consult this to your coach. Because, if the body is not prepared beforehand, triathlon will be a very hard activity to do.
