You need to start preparing items that you need to take to the hospital early if you have twins, because twins are usually born earlier than scheduled. In general, the full cycle for twins is 37 weeks, but just in case you prepare your items at week 26.

Packing for 2 babies can make you carry excess clothes and diapers. You can also not be sure how long you and your baby will be in hospital after labor. Not to mention sometimes the hospital does not have enough room to put things. Leave a few items in another bag to bring your partner if you need them. Our tips will help tell you what you need.

What should I prepare for labor?

If your twins grow well and there are no problems, you will be able to give birth normally. Here is a list that you need to prepare for labor:

  • Delivery documents and pregnancy data.
  • Comfortable and light nightgown. Dark colors or patterns can help disguise blemishes.
  • Sandals that are easy to install and remove.
  • Socks. You will often feel cold.
  • Sleepwear or old T-shirts to use during labor. You don't need to wear clothes that are too good.
  • Massage oil or lotion, if you want to get a massage during labor.
  • Birth ball that can help your labor process. Ask the hospital or take it yourself.
  • Lip balm. Your lips will dry easily.
  • Snacks and drinks, such as isotonic drinks and glucose tablets.
  • Entertainment objects to fill time, such as books, magazines, or tablets.
  • Hair band or tongs. If you have long hair, you can pigtail it.
  • Additional pillows to make you more comfortable.
  • MP3 player or CD player for listening to music.

What should a prospective father prepare?

  • Water spray or portable fan, to help you calm down.
  • Comfortable shoes, for your husband if running around in the corridor.
  • Dressing shirt. Your partner may not have time to take a shower.
  • Mobile and charger. Your partner can use a stopwatch, timer, or a special application to measure your contraction time.
  • Digital camera or handphone camera, to take photos or record moments with your baby.
  • Snack.

What do you need to prepare for after delivery?

If you have twins, you are more likely to have a caesarean section than if you only have one baby. You need to prepare items for a longer stay in the hospital. Here are a few things you need:

  • Guidelines on how to breastfeed.
  • Nursing bra. Bring 2 or 3 pairs.
  • Breast pads.
  • Puerperal dressing. Bring some sir.
  • Nightgown or shirt. Clothes that have openings on the front can help breastfeeding.
  • Toiletries. Store on smaller packages or buy with size travel size. Deodorants will also be useful to keep you fresh after labor.
  • Towels, combs, toothbrushes and toothpaste.
Old panties or disposable ones. Cotton underwear can be useful if you have a caesarean section to avoid friction with stitch marks.
  • Arnica cream. There is no definitive proof of how arnica creams work, but some women feel creams can help the healing process. Do not use on injured skin.
  • Blindfolds and ears to help you sleep.
  • Clothes to go home. You can bring loose clothes to wear on the way home. Your stomach may still not shrink.
  • Scarves to warm you.
  • Fiber-rich snacks to prevent constipation. If you recover well, you can immediately eat and drink as soon as possible.
  • Peppermint water or tea to alleviate pain from the stiff wind after childbirth.
  • A pillow that can help you breastfeed. You can buy a pillow specifically designed for breastfeeding.

What does the baby need while in the hospital?

Know that twins are usually smaller than most babies, making sure you buy the smallest size baby clothes.

For each baby, you will need:

  • About 10-15 sleepwear.
  • Diaper, about 12 diapers in a day.
  • Several pairs of socks.
  • Some hats.
  • One pair of clothes to go home, like clothes all-in-one.
  • Jacket.
  • Baby blankets so the baby is not cold.
  • Baby car seats. If you go home by taxi, your baby must be at the back of the car.

What do babies in neonatal units need?

According to the Twins and Multiple Births Association (TAMBA) survey, there were only less than half of the births of twins whose babies were treated in the neonatal unit. This means that most twins do not need treatment for the neonatal unit.

However, if one or both of your babies need special care, the hospital will prepare clothes and diapers for your baby.

If you cannot breastfeed your baby a few days after delivery, you can use a breast milk pump and give it through the bottle to your baby.

If you cannot meet your baby immediately, bring a cloth to stick to your chest for some time, then give it to the baby. Babies can feel comfortable with their mother's smell. Ask the nurse if you can leave the cloth next to your baby.
