Get to know chicken pox
Chickenpox, also known as varicella, is a contagious infection caused by the Varicella zoster virus.
Chicken pox can usually heal within 1-2 weeks. This condition is characterized by the appearance of resilience and reddish rashes on the face and body, then spread throughout the body. Although not life-threatening, complications can occur.
Chickenpox can occur at any age. However, it is more common and mostly attacks children.

The most common symptoms of chickenpox
Bouncy and reddish rash accompanied by itching are the most common symptoms of chickenpox. Infection is in your body about seven to 21 days before the rash and other symptoms of chickenpox develop. You can also pass on to people around you for up to 48 hours before the skin rash starts to appear.
Before the rash appears, you will also experience fever, headache, loss and appetite. A day or two after you experience these symptoms, the rash will begin to develop.
The rash goes through three phases before you recover. This includes:

What causes chicken pox?
Chickenpox is caused by infection with the Varicella zoster virus (VZV). Most cases occur through contact with an infected person.
This virus is transmitted to people around you for one to two days before the blisters appear. VZV remains contagious until all blisters are wrinkled.
This virus can spread through saliva, coughing, sneezing, and direct contact with fluids in blisters.
What should be done if you get chicken pox?
There are a number of things you can and should not do if you have chickenpox.
We recommend that you do some of these things.
- Take medication from a doctor to treat chickenpox, such as acyclovir or valacyclovir, or famciclovir
- Drink plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration
- Take paracetamol to reduce pain and discomfort
- If your child has chickenpox, put on his gloves to avoid scratching his body while sleeping. Also, cut your child's nails.
- Use a cream or cooling gel from the pharmacy
- Take antihistamine drugs to reduce itching
- Bathe with cold water and dry the body by tapping slowly, not rubbing it
- Use loose clothing
- Eat nutritious foods to improve the body's immune system
Don't do this if you have chickenpox.
- Take ibuprofen unless advised by your doctor, because it can cause serious skin infections
- Give aspirin to children under 16 years
- Being around pregnant women, newborns and people with weak immune systems, because it can be dangerous for them
