Why does every night I wake up when I'm maghrib?

Although the prohibition to wake up at maghrib is only believing or not believing, doing so can indeed make someone feel irritable. This is because behind the myths that are believed by the people, there is a scientific explanation. Here are three reasons why waking up at maghrib can make you not mood.

1. Changes in the human biological clock

The human biological clock (circadian rhythm) is a daily cycle that the body traverses in one day. The clock regulates various functions and organs of the body automatically based on the cycle that you normally go through. If there is a change in the biological clock, for example because you sleep when you are usually on the move, your body will be shocked and confused. These activities are not in accordance with the work of your organs.

At maghrib time, you are in peak fitness. Your lungs work up to 17.6% stronger than usual. In addition, the strength of your muscles also increases by 6%. So even if you don't realize it, the body is actually the best and fresh in the evening. This is why afternoon and evening are the best times for physical activity.

If you force yourself to rest and sleep at this hour, your body will be busy adjusting to this sudden change. Muscles that had been strong were forced to suddenly relax. Your lungs also need to work more relaxed during your nap.

However, this is not necessarily the body's success. The problem is, the body does not know how long the body functions will take place because this is not your body's daily program. So when you wake up at maghrib, your body feels sore and uncomfortable. This is because the body does not really rest during your nap. The muscles still feel tight. Because your body feels heavy, you feel irritated.

Waking up when the sky is dark also often makes you confused or disoriented. You think it's already morning. The brain reflexively forces the mind to wake up. However, you haven't slept long enough like a night's sleep which takes around 7-8 hours. Because of this confusion, you feel anxious.

2. Hormonal changes

Still related to changes in human biological clocks, the production of various hormones in the body is also regulated in the daily cycle. In order for your sleep quality to be good, the body needs the hormone melatonin which is usually produced around 9pm to 6am. This hormone can make you feel tired and sleepy. While in the afternoon until evening, the body lacks the sleep hormone.

However, because you are already lying comfortably and resting your body, eventually the production of the hormone melatonin also increases. The brain will also continue to produce this hormone according to your nighttime sleep everyday. This is because the brain thinks you are sleeping faster than usual, even though you only steal time to take a nap.

When you wake up at maghrib, your body is not ready and energized enough to move again. Because the hormone melatonin is still widely produced in the body. Because of this unnatural change, the brain reads the threat and the need to increase energy. As a result, the brain will order the production of stress hormones namely adrenaline and cortisol. In addition to increasing energy and alertness, these stress hormones will make you feel anxious and irritable.

3. Sleep inertia

Sleep inertia is a psychological condition in which you feel weak, tired, dizzy, and irritable when you wake up. This condition occurs if you take a nap for more than 20 minutes or wake up suddenly. The ideal nap is 20 minutes because you do not really fall asleep in deep sleep (REM stage sleep). Moreover, you will enter the REM stage.

So, if you take a nap late and just wake up at maghrib, the brain will be surprised because it suddenly wakes up from the REM stage. Sleep inertia conditions can last a long time, starting from half an hour to 4 hours. So, you should avoid naps for more than 20 minutes. Also try to wake up before 5pm.
