Overcoming nausea and vomiting with food

  • Eat small portions, but often. Avoid eating large portions in one meal. Stomach that is too full can trigger nausea and vomiting.
  • Reduce eating foods high in fat and high in salt, eat foods that are high in protein and which are included in the class of complex carbohydrates such as wheat bread, brown rice, and oats. A cup of wheat bread with low-fat peanut butter can be a snack choice that is safe for you to consume.
  • Avoid foods that smell sharp and stinging.
  • Reduce consumption of soft drinks, alcoholic, caffeinated and too sweet.
  • You can choose to eat foods that have cold temperatures or room temperature. Foods that are served in hot conditions can give off a pretty sharp aroma and can aggravate nausea.
  • Try putting ginger in your daily diet. A cup of warm ginger, ginger tea, and even ginger candy can help you overcome nausea. Ginger has been proven to be an alternative to reduce nausea without any harmful side effects.

Other changes to deal with nausea and vomiting

In addition to paying attention to what you consume, changing some habits and paying attention to the environmental conditions around you, and trying alternative types of treatment can also help deal with morning sickness.

  • If you are accustomed to wearing a belt, make sure you do not wear it too tightly so as not to suppress the stomach.
  • Room ventilation that allows good air exchange can also reduce nausea especially if you become more sensitive to certain aromas.
  • Stop smoking and try not to be exposed to cigarette smoke often.

When to contact a doctor?

Home care as above is usually enough to overcome morning sickness, but you should immediately contact a doctor if symptoms appear as follows:

  • Your nausea and vomiting are getting worse and don't stop until entering the fourth month of pregnancy.
  • You feel weak, dizzy, and have difficulty doing activities.
  • You have a high fever and there is blood substance in your vomit.
  • You vomit more than 3 times per day and you always vomit every time you eat or drink.
  • You lose weight fast.
