Women are very susceptible to breast cancer. This cancer is caused by changes in hormone levels, and hormone levels in a woman's body usually can change for various reasons, such as the menstrual cycle and pregnancy. Abortion, both spontaneous (natural) and medical, can change the levels of hormones in the female body which may lead to breast cancer.
The connection between abortion and breast cancer has been the subject of research since the 1950s. In 1970, a large study was conducted involving women diagnosed with breast cancer. The results showed that women who had had an abortion were significantly more at risk of developing breast cancer. Nevertheless, this research method is still not perfect so the results are invalid. Besides only involving a few respondents, this study only used data (regarding breast cancer diagnosis, history of miscarriage, and abortion) obtained from "self-report"Aka the report itself, not from medical records. As a result, the relationship between abortion and the risk of breast cancer is still unclear.
In 2003, the US National Cancer Institute held a workshop to review and study the relationship between pregnancy and breast cancer risk. The results showed that not many women had an increased risk of breast cancer, even though they had previously had an abortion.
Although the relationship between abortion and breast cancer is still a conversation, abortion has been proven to have a detrimental effect on women's health. Therefore, make sure you consult a doctor before deciding to undergo an abortion.
