Medical Video: BRIGHTBURN - Official Trailer (HD)
It might sound like myth or suggestion. But it turns out there are studies that show that if you watch a horror movie, you can lose a little weight. In 2012, a report was published on Telegraph.co.uk explain the facts.
According to this study, people who watch adrenaline-pumping movies such as horror films, about 90 minutes, can reduce as many as 113 calories, similar to walking for 1 hour, and the same as the calories produced by a piece of chocolate.
Researchers at the University of Wesminster conducted a study involving 10 different people to watch selected horror films. The researchers recorded heart rate, oxygen inhaled, and carbon dioxide released, and found the number of calories burned increased in all three points during the film.
The study also revealed that films designed so as to make the audience soar jump from their seats because the terror displayed in the film is the best calorie burner, because it causes their heart beats to beat fast.
Dr. Richard Mackenzie, senior lecturer and specialist in cell metabolism and physiology at the University of Westminster, said that every 10 films that are tested make the heart beat beat fast. As the beat gets faster and the blood pumped around the body becomes faster, the body will experience adrenaline pressure ...
"The body will release adrenaline which acts quickly, produced during short surprises due to intense stress (in this case, because of fear). The effect is to reduce appetite, increase basal metabolic levels, and eventually burn calories at the highest level, "said Richard.
A film editor of the LOVEFiLM movie rental company Helen Cowley, who was also involved in a study by several researchers at the University of Westminster, said that many people tend to close their eyes, hide behind pillows, or hug a bolster while turning their eyes so they don't see scary scenes, but this study suggests that maybe by forcing yourself to see scary scenes in the film, you can actually burn a few calories.
"So it's best to keep your eyes open while watching," Helen told Telegraph.
Based on these studies there are 10 best films that can reduce many calories, more than 100, namely:
- The Shining: 184 calories
- Jaws: 161 calories
- The Exorcist: 158 calories
- Alien: 152 calories
- Saw: 133 calories
- A Nightmare on Elm Street: 118 calories
- Paranormal Activity: 111 calories
- The Blair Witch Project: 105 calories
- The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: 107 calories
- [Rec]: 101 calories
