Medical Video: Why Does Your Stomach Growl When You're Hungry?
Have you ever heard of your stomach suddenly ringing hysterically? Sometimes this rumbling stomach can be heard throughout the lonely room, for example in the classroom or in the work room, so it often makes you embarrassed. The stomach is often seen as a sign that your stomach is empty and you are hungry. Is it true? What actually causes noise in a hungry stomach?
The sound of the stomach is normal
Actually, the stomach that sounds is a normal thing that happens to everyone, although in some cases the stomach sounds are symptoms and signs of an illness. But a hungry stomach then emits sound is a common thing. You may often hear a stomach rumbling because it hasn't been filled with any food. But actually this sound can still appear even when the stomach is filled with food.
In medical language, the sound generated by the stomach is called borborgimi or commonly known by lay people as the sound of "krucuk-krucuk" from a stomach rumbling. Actually it is still not known exactly what makes the stomach sound when it approaches the time of meal or when it smells delicious from food. Borbogimi is Greek which means 'roar'. It is true that when your stomach is empty and there is no food, the sound is released like a roar.

What causes the stomach to ring?
Even so, in fact the stomach always produces sound because there are movements carried out by organs in the stomach. This can happen when there is or no food in the stomach. The sound produced by the stomach is a result of the movement of the digestive organs in the stomach, such as the stomach, small intestine, and large intestine. This movement is called peristaltic movement, which is a movement that is not realized, and is directly regulated by the brain.
Basically, the digestive tract (from the mouth to the anus) is a channel that is empty and has a wall consisting of smooth muscles. When the wall is active or working, the peristalsis appears. This squeeze movement aims to encourage food, liquid, and gas to enter into. Similar to how the heart can pump blood, this unconscious movement of the gastrointestinal tract is also caused by the presence of an electric potential (BER) carried out by cells to cause contractions. The rhythm produced about 3 times per minute in the stomach and 12 times per minute occurs in the small intestine. So that the sound of the stomach that you hear is the sound of the stomach wall and the contracting small intestine, which is trying to mix all the food, liquid, and gas and encourage it to enter the next channel.

Why is the stomach sound very tight when hungry?
Actually, two hours after the gastrointestinal tract empties all food from its place, the stomach will signal the brain to secrete hormones in response to an empty stomach. Then the brain answers these signals by stimulating the smooth muscles in the digestive tract and initiating peristalsis.
There will be two things from the movement: first, contractions will sweep away all food that may still be left behind when the previous movement occurred. Secondly, this vibration from emptying causes hunger. Muscle contractions will appear and disappear every hour, at least 10 to 20 minutes of muscle contractions occur and disappear if you eat something to fill your stomach again.
So, it can be concluded that the stomach always sounds 'krucuk-krucuk'. But the sound of rumbling can be heard by you because indeed the voice of the stomach will be increasingly heard if there is no food in it that can reduce the noise from the sound produced.
How do you prevent stomach sounds?
One of the tips that can make your stomach silent and no longer give out the sound again, namely by eating small portions but often, rather than eating a large portion but can immediately be 'swept' and cleaned by the gastrointestinal tract at one time. Besides reducing gas-containing foods can reduce the sound of loud rumbling from your stomach.
