Consider the following basic differences to recognize whether you experience food allergies or intolerance.

Unlike allergies, food intolerance occurs because the body cannot digest certain types of food. This can be because you don't have a special enzyme that can break down the food or because of certain health conditions such as Celiac disease. You may also be too sensitive to chemicals added to food.

Food intolerance usually only attacks your digestive system. The symptoms that appear are usually most noticeable in the digestive tract. However, it is possible that you also experience a series of other symptoms. More specifically, the following list of symptoms of food intolerance that may occur.

  • Flatulence and bloating

  • Chest pain due to gastric acid reflux (ulcer)
