Heel pain is a common foot condition. This usually happens gradually and gets worse over time. This pain is often a severe thing and occurs when you put weight on your heels. In most cases, only one heel is affected, although it is estimated that about one third of people with heel pain have pain in both. Pain usually gets worse in the morning, or when you first step after silence. However, you will feel better when you walk, even if you stand or walk too long will make the pain worse.

Causes of heel pain

Heel pain is usually not caused by a single injury, such as a sprain or a fall, but rather the result of repeated pressure and impact on the heel.Common causes of heel pain include:

1. Plantar fasciitis (plantar fasciosis)

This is inflammation of the plantar fascia. Plantar fascia is a ligament that is like a crossbow strap from the calcaneum (heel bone) to the tip of the foot. When plantar fasciitis is attracted too far, the soft tissue fibers become inflamed, which usually occurs when tissue attaches to the heel bone. Sometimes problems occur in the middle of the foot. The patient will experience pain under the feet, especially after a long rest. Some patients experience calf muscle cramps, if the Achilles tendon also tightens.

2. Inflammation of the fluid sac (bursitis) heel

This is an inflammation of the bursa (a full fibrous sac of fluid) on the back of the heel. This can be caused by an imperfect or hard landing on the heel. This condition can also be caused by pressure from the shoe. You can usually feel pain inside the heel or behind the heel. Sometimes, the Achilles tendon may swell. More and more days, the pain will get worse.

3. Pump bumps

This condition often occurs in adolescents. The immature heel bone is completely rubbed over, resulting in too much bone formation. This is usually caused by flat feet. Maybe for women, this is caused by wearing too much high heels before the bones are fully cooked.

4. Tarsal tunnel syndrome

This occurs when a large nerve behind the foot becomes stuck or stuck (compressed). This condition is a type of compression neuropathy that can occur, either at the ankle or on the soles of the feet.

5. Chronic inflammation of the heel pad

Chronic inflammatory conditions are usually caused by a heel pad that becomes very thin, or because you walk with heavy footsteps.

6. Pressure fracture

This is a fracture caused by repeated pressure, which is often caused by strenuous exercise, exercise, or heavy manual work. Runners are very susceptible to stress fractures in the metatarsal bones of the foot. This can also be caused by osteoporosis.

7. Calcaneal apophysitis

The most common cause of heel pain in teenagers or adolescent athletes is calcaneal apophysitis, which is caused by excessive and repeated microtrauma on the growth of the calcaneus joint plate (heel bone). Children aged 7-15 are often affected.

8. Achilles tendonosis (degenerative tendinopathy)

This is also referred to as tendonitis, tendinosis, and tendinopathy. This condition is a chronic (long-term) condition that is associated with progressive degeneration of the Achilles tendon. The Achilles tendon cannot function properly due to minor and repetitive microscopic tendon tears, so that the tendon cannot heal and repair itself. The Achilles tendon, which receives a lot of tension with the presence of microscopic tears, can eventually thicken, weaken, and become painful.

9. Peripheral neuropathy

This condition is indeed not the main cause of heel pain, but this can also be one of the causes. Neuropathy is a group of disorders that occur when nerves from the peripheral nervous system (parts of the nervous system outside the brain and spinal cord) are damaged. This condition is commonly referred to as peripheral neuropathy, and it is the most common thing due to damage to nerve axons. Neuropathy usually causes pain in the hands and feet. This can be a result of traumatic injuries, infections, metabolic disorders and exposure to poisons. One of the most common causes of neuropathy is diabetes.
